Is there a way to retrieve files after you empty your recycle bin?

I heard that your hardware/harddrive or whatever still keeps those information/files (saw on TV on a show about identity theft).

I deleted a whole bunch of stuff, thinking i burned it onto a cd.. but 3 months after, when i wanted to view those files, it turned out the CD's empty!!

I KNOW i burned them.. but on both my desktop and notebook, the Cd comes up empty.

very very sad about everything i've lost. T_T

** Also for safety reasons.. is there a way to REMOVE information off your harddrive without manually destroying it? o_o

considering your files were deleted 3 months ago... it's pretty safe to say there's zero chance of you being able to recover them. The space your files occupied would have long been overwritten with new data already. Sorry.

He is correct.

However, sometimes you can visually look at the disk and see if there is actually information burned on it. If so, the files may still be recoverable.

Because of the nature of CD's and CD Drives, you would most likely have to take the CD to a recovery shop to retrieve whatever information you could off of the disk. But it can be prohibitively expensive.

-your choice.

wait wait...
The CD is empty right? As fishscene said, take a look at the disk. If you see the burn pattern across the CD or DVD, you DO have a chance of recovering some data.

Duh me. I forgot to mention I was referring ONLY to the hard drive having practically zero chance for recovery. I totally forgot about the CD you burned. tongue.gif

You might be able to recover some or all of the files on the CD you burned. If we assume the reason why the CD appears blank is because windows cannot read the CD format you used to burn with... then you should be able to use ISOBuster to view the contents of the CD. Isobuster recognises many formats that native Windows cannot. http://www.isobuster.com/isobusterdownload.php Download, install and run. Hopefully you should be able to see the contents and copy all the files intact.

If the files still don't show up, then you'll need to use an actual data recovery program. This would definately be awdark's territory as I haven't had the need to mess around with data recovery programs yet (hopefully I never will).

The reason why I said you would most likely have to take it to a shop to retreive the information is because as far as I know, this is how most CD drives work:

The CD drive reads the "MFT" of the CD to find the files. If the MFT is missing or is too corrupted, the drive won't even LOOK to the other sectors/tracks of the disk- and there is no way you could make it do that. But this isn't true for all drives.

-So yea, feel free to try to recover the files using one of the above mentioned programs.

-Good luck~

That's not what I'm referring to. I'm talking about the file system that was burned onto the CD. Like ISO 9660, Joliet, UDF, ISO 9660:1999, VCD, Photo CD... etc etc. If you REALLY did burn it and the files are there on the CD, ISObuster will see it.
