As expected, Turtles move up to the top spot with "비행기" (Aeroplanes). The trio has completed a long comeback road - they almost broke up last year due to leader Turtleman's illness. Now they are standing tall on top of the music chart. Congrats to them.

But Turtles will have to compete against Psy next week. Psy's new song "연예인" (Performer) stormed into the chart at No. 3 this week. His 4th album has topped the sales chart ever since its release in July. Like Turtles' music, Psy is hip-hop oriented but is getting more and more "pop" these days with less rapping. Let's see if he can overtake Turtles for the top spot next week.

Besides the high debut by Psy, we have 4 other new songs this week under the top 10. Former S#arp member Lee Ji Hye scored her first top 20 hit at No. 13 with a special single album "Love Me Love Me". Last year, Lee Ji Hye released her first solo album, which was heavy on ballads. This time, she's going back to a style of dance music which is similar to her S#arp days.

Superjunior's "U" fell out of the top 20, but they immediately bounced back with a follow up hit "Dancing Out" at No. 14. This song is from the compilation album "SM Town Summer Vacation 2006". Let see if it will duplicate the success of "U".

The other 2 new songs are Byul's " 큐피트" (Cupid) at No. 16, and Sugar's Ayumi with her first solo effort "Cutie Honey" at No. 20. "Cutie Honey" is a covered version of Koda Kumi's Japanese song of the same title.

The sales figure is very low in July, but at least MIAK now put back Shinhwa's 8th album (total sales: 161,452) and Kim Jong Kook's 4th album (total sales: 97,968) on to the list. However, both albums did not make the top 10 in July. Buzz went over 100,000 copies total sales in July. Congrats to them. Also, DBSG has 2 albums in the top 10.

ARTIST OF THE WEEK - Brown Eyed Girls



Our featured artist this week is the new female quartet Brown Eyed Girls. Carrying the "brand name" Brown Eyes, they created a lot of attnetions even before debut. Their first single "다가와서" (Staying Close) made it to the top 10 even without appearing too much on gayo shows to promote the song. At that time, fans were thinking that they would be just like Brown Eyes who never appeared on gayo shows to promote their songs. Later, these girls finally appear on stage in front of us with very impressive performances. "다가와서" (Staying Close) shows their softer side with great vocals. Their recent collobration "Hold The Line" with Cho PD shows their lighter side. With only 2 songs Brown Eyed Girls already told us that they are a very versatile group. They have a bright future ahead.

The making of the Brown Eyed Girls took about 3 years from the conception of a girl group, recruiting and training, to the production and release of its debut album. Han Won-jong, the vocal coach of big K-pop stars like SG Wannabe, Jang Nara and Ok Joo-hyun, was in charge of training the members of the Brown Eyed Girls. The female quartet personifies the genre of music called “Hybrid Soul” in which R&B is combined with hip-hop.

Good observation.

Gavy NJ's song not listed in thr top 20 is not because the MV being too short, but their song is only popular in internet charts. They did not come out to perform this song on gayo shows, and the song was not listed in any gayo charts of major TV stations, so they don't have enough scores.
