okay so.. I just moved to Texas from California and I'm totally lost on how getting a permit and license work here. sweatingbullets.gif

anyone got a permit/license/car already in TX? pls help this noobie x_< lols
anyways, so I went to the Texas Driver License Office and they gave me a form to fill out and pay 20bucks. Few weeks later they sent me a 'Parent Taught Driver Education Packet'
and I'm not sure what I'm suppose to fill out in this packet?
the 'behind the wheel log', do I save that and when I get an instructor I give it to him/her to fill it out for me?

ok so basically, how do I get a written test first?
Fill out the DL-14A (Application for Texas Driver License/Identification Card)
After I finish studying the Drivers Handbook I can go get my written test right?
and If I pass my written test, I go find myself an instructor and let him/her fill out the packet and do my whatever required time and teach me behind the wheel.
When I'm done with my time I go to the Texas Driver License Office again and take my Behind the Wheel test. yes? no? and when If I pass Behind The Wheel, I can drive with someone whose over 21 for at least 6 months before I can drive on my own?

^^ please tell thats how it works tears.gif

sorry if this is such a stupid question vicx.gif I'm kinda desperate heh. =)
oh and iono if this is the right place to post this..soo..sry if i wasnt suppose to. =x

I did the parent taught thingie. There is an X amount of minimum weeks you have to wait before you can take your written test right? It should be on the log page from what I remember. I had a study packet with all of the questions so I didn't touch the book. The written test is sooo easy. I believe 40% of it was signs and the rest was right of way. There was some on intersections and merging etc...simple stuff, just decipher the pics.

OK...well, after you did the written test, you go in there and get your permit. Wait six months and get your license. All I can tell you is that the log hours and such are useless. Fill it out on yourself and make sure the dates match and stuff. You don't need an instructor; your parents/legal guardian can be the instructor. Oh yah, after they see your logs and forms after the 6 months, you just get your license right there. No behind-the-wheel test is required ^ ^! OK, well you can ask the dps about the over 21 thing, because I'm not sure if it's over 21 or parent/legal guardian. The permits does allow you drive within that 6 month wait though, just not sure with whom....

Hmmmmm, everything you need to know should be in the packet they sent you. Read it carefully for the dates you need to wait...how many hours of instruction, etc etc....If you need more help though, go to...
