I just bought a Sony VAIO SZ220/B...and the directions say to put the battery in, and then connect the AC adapter and plug it in...but my brother is telling me to just use the computer first and drain the battery and hten plug it in and the battery life will be longer that way...which was is the way to go??

yeah my dad just told me to do that too...I just bought a toshiba today. He told me to charcg and drain it 4x...it's like conditioning for the battery or something.

It shouldn't really matter...
Laptops use lithium ion batteries and they will take care of itself. If you want to drain it down once go for it. But its not very good to drain the battery down all the time. The battery life would just degrade faster...

Don't drain lithium ion batteries if you can avoid it and try to keep them topped up on charge as often as possible.
