K-Fed, also known as Mr. Britney Spears and the globe's most famous househusband, made his television debut as a big-time rapper on Sunday night but - wouldn't you know it -he was upstaged by his pregnant wife.
Britney Spears, overflowing in her mauve chiffon mini-dress in every way, got a loud, sustained ovation when she stepped onstage at the Teen Choice Awards in Universal City.
She told fans: "This show has been very good to me and my career over the years. And I'm hoping that it will be as good to our next performer."
She also pointedly referred to husband Kevin Federline as "my man," rebuking rumors of a divorce that would presumably change his nickname to K-Fed-Ex.
The appearance by Britney grabbed the headlines: People.com went with "Stand By Her Man" and MTV.com summed up the news as "Britney Introduces K-Fed."
The gossip website Defamer.com at least gave the novice rapper his due, but not in necessarily a positive way: "K-Fed finally shows the world he's earned his ridicule all by himself." RollingStone.com joined the chorus: "Pigs Don't Fly, and Kevin Federline Does Indeed Suck."
The former backup dancer brought plenty of accessories to the stage - pyrotechnics, liquid-limbed dancers, a piano, a giant "F" logo, a DJ, backup rappers, etc., but the consensus was that the reedy-voiced Mr. Spears might be better onstage if he just put down that microphone. As star rapper Sean Paul told reporters backstage: "I was expecting more dancing from the dude, you know?"
