if you are a senior and needs to take the SAT pretty soon, the SAT classes would prep you well by telling you different tricks and pointers and such.... some also have boot camp to cram you with vocab and stuff...
personally i would prefer to study by myself... with that $1000 bucks you can buy 100 SAT prep books... so why waste all that money?!
PRACTICE is the key... all SAT classes do is pile you up on practice tests... so just go buy a lot of books and practice yourself....

perhaps my stats will convince you a little
My FIRST EVER practice test at Princeton Review was a 1640.
My LAST EVER real SAT test was a 2130.
What really helped me were all those practice tests I took. They really taught me how to sit and concentrate for almost four hours straight. I learned how to pace myself, how to learn endurance. and it helps to prepare yourself for extreme hunger and fatigue! hahah

I read in the newspaper that it's around 6000 to take a 10 week course.
And they guarantee a certain score, or your money back. So yes, the hakwons in Korea work. (I'm pretty sure all of them aren't that expensive, but...the example they gave)
Not sure about ones run by PR and such.

please do not PM me asking me to close threads, etc! i am no longer a mod! ^^ thanks!

My FIRST EVER practice test at Princeton Review was a 1640.
i have to warn u pr tests are way off...i got around 1900s on all of them and on the real SAT i got 2220
anyway i took princeton review. i credit it for my high score. without it, im not sure i could have gotten that high
but the main thing is, the class wont help if u dont put effort into it (doing hw, studying vocab, doing the stuff)
plus, i did like alot of practice questions. practice helps most, but u gotta learn the strategies too
also, it really depends on ur teacher. my teacher was kinda slacker, so i guess i might have gotten better if i got a better teacher
so if ur taking the class, ask around and see which teacher is good and ask for that teacher

if u're good at motivating urself to study then u shouldn't waste ur money on the class and buy a book instead.
