re: take 7
hmmm. i'm not sure to what or to whom the 'suspicions' are referring. if they are referring to lee soo man, then i'm not surprised. lee soo man had investigations surrounding him years ago concerning shady dealings between his company and other big companies in regards to the promotion of his artists. basically, it was thought that lee soo man paid big money (which is illegal) under the table to get his artists on more tv shows and to gain more airplay. amount of airplay dedicated to each artist is supposed to be dependent on ONLY listeners' requests. honestly, i think lee soo man has done several of these under-the-table-dealings. he seriously does an EXTRAORDINARY job of promoting his artists -- they're seriously like EVERYWHERE (super junior, tvxq, boa). promotion is one of the biggest factors in determining the sink or swim of celebs -- amazing performers with inadequate advertising are NOT going to get anywhere; average performers can make a solid name for themselves with the help of good publicity. it's funny how the public is always suspicious of lee soo man, yet he remains the top dog in the music industry. he obviously has a talent for creating lovable artists that young girls cannot seem to keep themselves from obsessing over. and that is his key to success.
so, with all that said -- i'm not surprised that jang ri in always lands near the top in charts. though it's true that she is a less than stellar performer (for whatever reasons anyone wants to conjure up), she is a prodigy of sm entertainment and that is why she is where she is at today. there's so much talk about this girl since she has the title of being the 'chinese boa.' this is clearly an advertising technique to incite the curiosity of those who are avid fans of k-pop. her biography on her official website uses such elevated statements such as '...she has developed breathing with a diverse range of music,' 'blossoming her talents...,' 'reborn as an attractive r&b singer,' '...extends over all the kinds of dances with her natural flexibility and a sense of rhythm' -- there's more, but too much for me to type... the first time i read it, i got the impression that she was some phenomenal 16-year-old blessed with godsent talents in every area of the performing arts. whoever wrote it makes me wanna gag with their misleading exaggeration. [on a side note, i would looove to see her play the violin since she supposedly received the best grade when she was in middle school.]
but anyway, i don't really doubt the statistics that pushed her into take 7. any sm follower has surely heard and downloaded 'timeless'; any jang ri in fan has probably seen all her pictures and searched for her info online. she has so much support from her fans. i think she has a strong fan base -- i would say even PRIOR to her debut, she had acquired many fans. i guess we'll see where she goes from here.
re: plastic surgery
i think this is a big issue in the korean entertainment industry. i feel like every new celeb (especially female) that comes out gets questioned with this topic. if i just looked at jang ri in without looking at any before pictures, i would think she's natural. as for all those before pictures floating online, i actually doubt the credibility of those. she really does not look like those before pictures; i think it might be another chinese sm trainee. there's only been one picture (taken from the korean celeb photos area of soompi) that i've seen that i think is her (on the right):

if that's her, her face has slimmed down a 'lil, losin' the baby chub. the rest of her features look about the same. i'm just guessin' that's her, but who knows.
i think sm trainees have a reputation for undergoing plastic surgery. but i personally don't believe that. i think sm chooses ppl who are good-looking to begin with -- if you audition for sm, they highly discourage makeup because they want to see how you really look. sm has good stylists -- they can transform ppl.

and while recording, SM did sort of fix it up for her a lot.
but I have a feeling that she'll sing 'Y' really well.
and I was listening to her sing "Miduhyo" even though it was like barely 10 seconds...
she sang it really well.
so yeah..
and it's so obvious that she did not have plastic surgery...
also the TAKE 7 thing,
she has a good song that's been out long before she performed it,
JUNSU is part of the song
and SUJU.
like everyone said.
anyway that's all.

I dont think this has been posted, sorry if it has. I found it interesting, it explains why Jang Ri In has only been performing on SBS and MBC.
Zhang Li Yin signed only to SBS & MBC
In the "DICON 2006 Entertainment Industry International Conference" held in Seoul on the 18th, Lee Soo Man, director of SM Entertainment, gave a one-hour talk in the section "The Strategy to Boost Earnings in the Entertainment Industry", with his topic being "The Present and Future of Korean Entertainment".
According to Lee Soo Man, the first Korean wave exported the best of Korean products, including H.O.T., BoA, the movie "Swiri", the drama serial "Dae Jang Geum". The second Korean wave concentrated on joint projects with other countries, including KangTa&Vanness, Super Junior, and the movies "Battle of Wits" (Super Junior's Shiwon acts in this) and "The Promise". Korea is now at the second stage of the Korean wave, and will be moving into the third Korean wave, the representative of which is Zhang Li Yin, a Chinese singer who is debuting in Korea.
Currently, HanKyung (from Super Junior) and Zhang Li Yin both carry out activities while holding E-6 (entertainment industry) passports. Foreign artistes carrying out promotional activities have limitations in terms of location and other factors. HanKyung's passport only allows him to work under SBS and KBS, while Zhang Li Yin's allows her to work only with SBS and MBC.

I'm still kind of disappointed with her lives, but I'm still waiting for her to move on beyond Timeless. I think the studio enhanced her voice WAY too much on that song. And even for her lives, they're using backup vocals to support her on the highest note, I think.

i had no idea that passports had those kinds of limitations..
that is SOOO weird and bizarre... (well at least to me)
i can't imagine why it's those companies and why it's different for the two of them...
and her singing miduhyo... hm...
