does the writing section (the new section) of the SAT count? i remember my guidance counselor saying that it doesn't count and its just used as a survey for universities. the writing section just so happens to be my worst score by far so i did some research and some sites on the internet says it doesn't count either
so does it count or not??

Of course it counts. It counts just like the SAT II Writing used to count; this replaces that SAT II. Colleges look at the whole SAT I score too, not just math & verbal by themselves. If colleges hadn't looked at my writing score as well, I probably wouldn't have gotten into as many colleges as I did hahah -__-

It obviously counts haha. I think you're referring to the experimental section. That section is used for survey/research/whatever. But you don't know which one it is; it can be either math or english. It's usually the most difficult section.

it depends on the school you're applying to. most schools are counting the writing section into consideration when you apply. however, some schools like georgetown dont look at your writing score. you should ask the schools whenever you go visit them or email them so that you know if it counts or not (:

the writing score definitely COUNTS, but i think different schools put different amounts of weight on it. some schools might consider ur math and verbal more, since writing is new but you should still definitely aim high for writing if you plan on applying to a top tier school. also, since this is the second year, not the first, they have last year's scores to compare this year's with, so yea..
