Sally Malasmas (Toni Gonzaga) applies for a US visa. There she meets the young and dashing vice-consul Will Derby (Sam Milby) with a wide, warm and inviting smile. Sally feels it’s her lucky day! But Will thinks Sally does not have enough ties to the Philippines that will make her come back. He denies her visa, beams one last sweet smile at her and turns his back before she could protest. It isn’t Sally’s lucky day anymore.
Sally Malasmas is a Care Officer at the National Statistics Office. She’s smart and is a genuinely caring person who always has a hand to help other people. But despite her capabilities, Sally feels insecure of her older sister Charry whom she feels her parents always favored and always outperformed her. And in love, Sally tends to be needy and clingy. Her parents and only sister have all migrated to the United States to embrace the ‘American Dream’. But for Sally, the Philippines is where she wants to be.

Will Derby is a dashing vice-consul from the United States Embassy in Manila. He grew up in pre-dominantly white North Dakota where very few Filipinos live. But Will is not an American. He’s a Filipino adopted by an old American couple. He would have avoided being posted in the Philippines, a place he doesn’t like very much, if he could. But a promise to his mother to search for his real parents made him not to. Will has always lived a life of incompleteness and unbelongingness. Even his relationships are fleeting until he meets Sally.

Sally is only forced to apply for a US Visa because her sick mom who refuses to come home needs care. So for Sally, how could Mr. Derby think she’s another TNT when she never ever dreamed of going to the land of milk and honey?! She is definitely insulted. And too bad she initially thought he’s gorgeous.

To make things worse, Will decides to finally try searching for his parents. He goes to the NSO to look for his original birth certificate. Fate plays a trick and makes Sally and Will meet again. She seeks revenge and makes him wait all afternoon for his document. But her ploy fires back as her boss catches her. Now, she’s forced to help him.

After giving it some thought, Sally sees the opportunity to use Will to finally get a visa. She goes out of her way to go with him to places, from the rugged Tondo to a town fiesta in Pampanga, just to find his parents. As they inch nearer and nearer to where his parents are, they also get closer and closer to each other. And after several experiences together, from getting caught by the police in a gambling house to the more intimate fiesta plaza dance, their initial attraction becomes real, though unconfessed, love.

Will Mr. Derby finally discover where his real parents are? And with his posting in Manila about to end, will he find another reason to stay? Will there be a chance for Sally and Will’s Love to bloom? And if there is, will they have the courage to admit it’s each other that they need?

You Are The One explores the insanities that comes with love, the impossibilities to be hurdled to make love happen and the self-confidence we all need to make love work.

TONI AND SAM: THE MUCH-AWAITED TEAM UP IN THIS SEASON’S BIGGEST LOVE STORY!

For the longest time, Toni Gonzaga and Sam Milby have been linked together but it seems time and circumstance prevents them from pursuing a relationship… but in Star Cinema’s latest love offering, “You are the One”, Sam and Toni proves that love has no boundaries.

“This movie is a blessing. Everybody knows I have this big crush on Toni and I’m so thankful that I was able to work with her. Dati shy talaga ako sa kanya but now I’m really really comfortable and man… it’s really awesome!” Sam excitedly relates!

“Ako naman natutuwa ako kasi lagi na lang naming sinasabi na hindi kami makapag-bond together dahil lagi saliwa ang schedules namin and all, pero with this movie, mas nakilala ko siya, pero we’re taking it really slow,” Toni adds.

It has been long rumored that the two have elevated their friendship status to a deeper, more personal level, but we have yet to discover that. But if the scenes in “You are the One” are the ones to tell, indeed, the friendship has something more!

And if their well-received first movie outings are the basis for the makings of a hit, “You are the One” is probably already smelling success, so to speak!

With excellent direction from Cathy Garcia-Molina, the same director behind the box office hit “Close To You”, this film promises a story that will make everyone feel a warm rush—kilig to the highest level! Watch out for “You are the One” on August 30 in over a hundred theaters nationwide!

DIREK CATHY GARCIA MOLINA HELMS ANOTHER WINNER IN “YOU ARE THE ONE!”

Unassuming, fun, brilliant. That’s how co-workers and her stars describe Direk Cathy Garcia-Molina as she embarks on a new project, “You are the One”. Fresh from her P100 million plus plus blockbuster “Close to You”, Direk Cathy is said to have another winner on her hands!

Her no-nonsense, fun attitude towards work reflects on her finished product—light, fresh and very real. Her stars, rumored couple Toni Gonzaga and Sam Milby, was generous with praise. “Direk didn’t make me feel that way na kailangan kong ma-pressyure. She is very patient with me, especially when it comes to motivating me, explaining the character of Sally. She really worked hard for this movie lalong-lalo na sa character ni Sally. Kaya what you will see na everything na ginawa ni Sally is because of Direk Cathy,” Toni gushes.

Her trust in Direk Cathy resulted to a new Toni Gonzaga—we’ve known her to be a host a comedienne at times—but “You are the One” showcases another side of Toni we’ve never seen before—a dramatic actress.

On the other hand, Sam Milby is bigger and better in his second film outing—the first being with Direk Cathy also!

Sam is definitely excited about the reunion. “The first movie I did… I owe her. That was my very first acting job for film and she has helped me a lot. So since I already worked with her, she knows how I work, it made it easy throughout the movie. We already know each other so we know how to work it out. She really has the patience for a very long shoot. Though she is strict at time, it has been a lot of fun. It’s been great!”

Direk Cathy complimented the goodlooking couple with locations and shots that is everything but conventional. Trust her to bring the film to the highly unlikely places and ensuring that the moviegoing public will never look at these locations the same way they did before.

In the film Toni plays Sally, a sunny, noisy National Statistics Office employee bent on joining her family in the United States. Sam plays Will, a disgruntled US Embassy employee who denies Sally of her chance to migrate to the States. What happens next, is something to watch out for!

Today, buzz is going around. Everybody is expecting a highly entertaining but very real movie. Catch Direk Cathy’s highly-anticipated romantic movie of the season, “You are the One” in over 150 theaters nationwide on August 30!

i watched it in the movies this afternoon with my friends...we thorougly enjoyed it...many funny and kilig moments...the story's a bit predictable but what the heck it's a feel good movie and it's worth watching...

i'm pretty excited about Toni and Luis' teleserye though...Crazy 4 U...i've seen the trailer last night and it looks promising and very exciting..

oh yeah, before the movie started, the trailer for Maging Sino Ka Man aired...it stars Bea, John Lloyd, Anne Curtis and Sam Milby...it looks melodramatic but good all the same...

whoa ABS and star cinema have good up and coming projects...

yeah it does, but i think they imitated GMA's I Luv NY which was shot in the Big Apple..it was such a big hit that ABS also came up with Crazy For You which was shot in Barcelona and Ibiza, both cities in Spain..those two Pinoy giant networks are always competing with other..but i guess business is business so that's why.. smile.gif

as a FILIPINO, i think i've got a responsibility to correct your spelling..it's FILIPINOS, not PHILIPINOS, FYI.....

yup, i also noticed that angle while watching Crazy For You's trailer..Toni was really Luis' housemaid hehehe..

haha sounds filipino..we tend to tolerate imitations from other shows just to watch our own talents act hehe...

haha now there's a reason for non-filipinos to learn the filipino language, it's very easy hehe..clauric's right, i'm afraid that Star Cinema won't release english-subbed DVDs..on the brighter side, i'm sure the US won't be left out on this movie's international release just like Star Cinema's recent horror movie SUKOB hehehe...

haha i think you've misinterpreted me huh..i wrote my statement in ALL CAPS, not WITH CAPS, for emphasis

you can't use your being non-filipino as an excuse for your poor English grammar skills..i'm just advising you

the whole world knows that 95% of the philippine population are fluent in english..so don't mess with us huh..

ok, this thread was supposed to be for this movie, but i'm kind of disappointed, the fact that i'm so interested in this movie is turned off by you saying those things to me just because i spelled FILIPINOS wrongly. I wasn'e ven trying to belittle your country or your people, if you read my messages you'd know. I'm not sorry for not speaking great english as you are, i wasn't making excuse for my poor english skill, but merely because i am not a FILIPINOS, thus explains that i couldn't spell it correctly, i don't know why you seems so angry, in fact, most countries doesn't know other countries as well as they know their countries.
I wasn't even trying to mess up with any people in the universe. Again, i don't see why you're so angry. IF ever any foreigner comes up to me and say or spell my origins not in a correct manner, i would inform them nicely since i understand not everybody are being sarcastic (if that's what u thought i was).
I thought the philipines has such friendly citizens, but i think i was wrong.
thanks again for the reminder

don't be offended alcyone...i don't think CJW meant to attack you in any way...

well, i'm 99% sure that Star Cinema produces ENGLISH SUBTITLED DVDs for movies...because i've bought a feww of them myself...(Milan, Kahit Isang Saglit)...they all had optional English subtitles..

i really wanna share some of these movies to non-filipinoes...so if 'If you are the one' would be released on DVD, i'll rip it with the subtitles and upload it on a clubbox i am a member on (naynay123)...
