Whenever I open a folder, it opens in a new window and i end up opening 15 windows without even realizing. I check my folder settings, and it's set to open in the same window..



but it still opens in a new window. help?

Under the "View" tab, hit Apply to All Folders. Close all your explorer windows then open them again.

If that doesn't fix the problem... then I believe it's because you've got some sort of spyware or virus. I've seen that same problem before on another computer and it was caused by spyware if I remember correctly. Download, update then scan using Spybot - Search & Destroy if that's the case.

I downloaded Spybot, scanned, and it found 4 spyware thingys. Trojans If I remember correctly, and then after Spybot removed them, the folders still opened in a new window.

well then do this. Close all your explorer windows. Right-click on the link below then select "save link as". Once you save the file on your computer, double-click it. When it asks if you want to add the info to the registry, hit YES. Now open the explorer windows. It should work now.

i did what you said, but it didn't work. even after i restarted it. i think i found the problem though...


^i can't seem to click the check box that says "browse in same window". any ideas how to fix that?
