are you referring to the PSAT?
the PSAT is supposed to easier than the actual SAT.. but imo it is just shorter.. but of the same difficulty as the SAT... the only difference is that in the PSAT you don't have to write an essay in the writing section...
you are a sophomore? if you take the PSAT in junior year.. and get a good score, you might be qualitfied for a national merit scholarship.. but i guess you can take it again next year if you want...
since i am studying for the PSAT also... i would recommend you go look over prep books for the SAT.. it will over-prepare you a bit for the PSAT.. but it is good practice..!!!.. and... the Princeton Review has a pretty good PSAT book and the REA one is okay too...
study VOCAB.. REA has a comprehensive list of vocab.. so does PRINCTON i think.. it's like a hit parade of words most likely to show up in these standardized tests... and practice reading comprehension.. by reading ALOT of classics and stuff... PRACTICE makes PERFECT... so just get familiar with the test material and you will be CONFIDENT on test day and DO JUST FINE...
GOOD LUCK...

Hmm, i dont know if this is really true, but i felt that the PSAT was much easier than the real SATs :/
And ya, its nothing to worry about if you arent aiming to get the scholarship.

well for me the PSATs were harder.. consider u dont kno as much sophmore year than junior year.. i took the PSAT in 10th and got like 1020? but when i took the SATs i got a much higher grade w/ 1260. from my point of view you can always do better on the second try because for one thing, u learn much more as the year passes which helps u on the test, especially when it comes to the vocabs, that was the thing i had most trouble on, well thats the section that i need to work on to improve my score. i dont kno what ur strong points are at, if u kno ur good at math focus on readin n writin, vice versa.
yes is the PSATs there is no essay, in the SATs their are. its really wack when u think about it cuz u only get 20min 2 finish the essay, which i happen to not finsh, but u dont need to worry about that til next year.
I personally didnt study at all, but it is good to study up on words or equations or stuff like that. and if u dont get the score u want u can always retake it, but the PSATs dont really matter, unless u want a merit then u should ^^
Well best of luck to ya

I took the PSATs as a sophomore which was last year.
I'm planning on taking it again this year as well.
When you register & pay for it, you get a free booklet that has a short sample test & tips. I studied off of that the night before. Unfortunately, I did not get very high scores. But you have to keep in mind, it was the first time taking it, so I would say that just go for it for the experience. That way you know what to prepare for the following year and how to study. PSATs don't matter a great deal unless you're a junior where at that stage, you're eligible for the National Merit thing.
I went in knowing pretty darn close to nothing, and left the room thinking to myself, "What the heck did I just do." Kind of a shock on my part because I am a straight-A student, yet when testing my logic, it's death row for me. But now I know what to expect, right? So don't worry if it's your first time taking it. It might be harder than you'd think, that also allows room for you to wisely prepare yourself. (:
Hope that helped.

required at mine too.
189 on psat for freshman year T__T
but, just study SAT words; find them in the backs of... Barron's Critical Reading. It's a good book. And so is the Barrons.. actually, Barrons anything is good IMO.
Just probably take some practice tests, or atleast try out sections of each subject. It can't be that hard, but since you know more in junior and senior year, it may be harder if you havn't learned anything. Just make sure you know geometry and algebra 2, and know how to read
and if you miss one question, you lose more points, i believe, not sure.

It was required at my school as a sophomore, too. Don't worry, it's easy. Definitely not harder than the actual SAT and much shorter, though not necessarily noticeably easier. Seriously, there's nothing to study, just like with the SAT.
Hey, look! Finally a different signature after all these years!

it's not too bad, plus it doesnt even count if u take it as a soph...its more of a "try it out" thing. there ISNT really much to study...i didnt study soph year and got a bad score though. hahah but summer before junior year i studied for SAT and when i took the psat my score improved alot...so much i actually got the semi-finalist thing. so yeah, if you REALLY want to study, just study the SAT (get the blue collegeboard book)
it's like the sat but less sections. math, CR, grammar. (no essay)
