Im a senior in high school right now, and I am going to start applying for colleges soon. I want to be a dentist but I'm not sure which UC i should aim for that would be best for being a dentist. Also, im not sure what i should be majoring in also. If anyone could help me as to how I can plan to be one, that would be great!!!

i thought predentistry was more like a focus(?) rather than a major. i haven't seen a predentistry major when i applied to ucs..can't you be a biology/chem major and just take the courses the graduate schools require?

theres rarely a major called pre-dentistry u should study a science (chem or maybe bio? or maybe biochem :|) anyhow and then after you get your degree in that major you go to graduates school and study dentistry, its the same path as becoming a doctor if u want to think of it that way. not sure about the mcats though

It's hard to find a school with a predentistry program. huh.gif
Usuaully, you major in biology or chemistry, or heck, anything you want, and then you go to dentistry school. As long as you fulfill all the requirements. But if you want to go to a pre-dentistry program, you can try the University of the Pacific campus in San Francisco. But I've heard that it's not an easy process.

I don't know about other schools, I've only been interested in UoP, but UoP has those special programs for pre-pharm and pre-dent students where you can graduate earlier and get a degree earlier. Like my friend's in the pre-pharm program and she can get her PhD in 6 years, instead of the usual.

But for dental schools, I know there're about 4 or 5 dental schools in CA, there's USC, UoP, UCLA, UCSF and some other ones I don't know. biggrin.gif

So maybe UCLA should be the UC you should aim for then. huh.gif
But I don't think it matters which one..., grad school's not undergrad.
UCSD has a good bio program though. :]

yay! i want to be a dentist too! but..im only a junior. i guess i should start soon. anyways, i've never heard of a pre-dentistry major. i dont think there's such a thing. i think i'll major in biochem engineering, then after my four years of college, go to graduate school. its graduate school that counts more. (:

I heard UoP and UCLA have one of the best dental schools.

And yeah, you can major in anything from phscology to business administration to biology to even .... cooking? xD Maybe not.

Just as long as you get the required credits for school.

Also, I believe theres a test for dental school. Pretty much like the MCATs (Medical School one)

UCLA dental school is so hard to get into. try to aim for straight A's in college, it'll make getting into dental school a lot easier.

i have a friend whos studying dentistry at a school in boston. she says it's expensive too. 80,000 a year i think.
