During freshman year, which was last year for me [class of `09 baby!] i was involved in colorguard. our school is very competitive, and i had to take 0&1st colorguard, after school practices twice a week, monday night practices 6-9 pm, & competitions on saturdays usually for the entire day. none the less, my grades dropped from a 3.8 to a 2.8. procratination became my best friend. i want to make this year a great year, & i hear all these people talking about how they are involved in ap & 55464654+ clubs & sports..my question is-how did you balance everything out?

I think that you should take whatever club & AP class you're interested in -- Don't take an AP or HP class just because it says it in the title. You're more than likely going to hate it SO much.

I'm involved with sports throughout the year where I have practices everyday and games every other saturday. I also have games on tuesdays&thursdays so I have to leave class early (usually 5th or 6th period depending on the block day). I do my homework by periods so that I at least do most of my homework and if I get too tired (past like 12am or something) then I can work on it later during the school day. Also, I try to get my counselor to switch my harder classes to before lunch since I usually leave after lunch. I'm also involved with clubs but that's during lunch.

It's not that hard. I too procastinate but I'm doing good so far smile.gif I've managed to get 3.67+

sometimes you need to sacrifice a "normal" social life if you're really involved in extra currics... thats how i was during jr year of hs.. but hey, i guess it paid off. i ended up with a 3.8ish gpa (unweighted) with 7 IB courses, and 10+ extra currics. hahahaha... sigh. thats when i had zero period too (6:30 am, blech).

basically, you have to be as efficient with your time as you can.

but don't forget to have fun! see, the thing about my extra currics, is that i REALLY enjoyed doing them. playing drumset for church? fun. doing taekwondo? fun. etc etc. so just do things that you're passionate about and it'll seem like less of an obligation.

actually, let me modify my first sentence. it's not that your sacrifice your social life, it's that your extracurrics become your social life.
