Just today, I received a letter/nomination/whatever you call it from NYLF (national youth leadership forum) about their medicine program. I was wondering what it exactly is. Have any of you received this letter (maybe not for medicine but for law or technology)? Have any of you attended? If so, how was the experience? And also, you know how these letters say stuff like "YOU SHOULD BE SO PROUD OF YOUR DAUGHTER..BLAH BLAH...THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY...ETC." Well...I don't want to get my hopes up or anything but do colleges look at this as an "extra" thing to have on your application?

I'm not sure if I should attend or not. I'm sort of interested because I want to be a doctor and I want to be able to work with researchers and physicians.

wow ... I was going to post about this too.

I got a letter for medicine. They said they saw me on College Board.

But $2000+ seems alot. crazy.gif

And that doesn't include airfare. sleep.gif

I want to know some more info on it though because it seems really interesting and cool.

Yeah, I actually went to this, the one on medicine.

The cost is a bit extravagent, but if money's not an issue, then I highly recommend going. Not so much as you can put it on your college application, since it's not that exclusive and they send these letters to practically anyone, but more for the experience. Like, as a 15 year old Junior with no work experience whatsoever, they did a lot to try to get me into a hospital where I could observe. Of course I was more limited than others, but it was worth the experience.

Also, I think you can apply for a scholarship for this. My friend got all of his completely covered because he applied for the scholarship.

Haha I got this too but my bestfriend actually just went to this june-july; the one for medicine in SF. She said it was great. She met a lot of new people from all over the states and it was just a great experience.

i just asked my friend who went to the medicine one last year
he said its good for asking questions cuz ull get good answers, but if you dont ask anything, its not too great
he also mentioned scholarships, which he got, which also meant he got to go for nearly free
he said a lot of parties and he hitchhiked all over the place.
so he said dont go if i end up having to pay, but if i get the scholarship, itd be nice to go since the forum is in february and im a senior. just bone out for a week or so

so if u have to pay => bad
if its free => good exp

I can't remember but I think there was a part on the application where you could apply for financial aid/scholarship if you qualified. I'm not sure though, you could contact them I guess.

Its definately not a scam becaus thousands of students attend it every year. In fact, my own friend did . She had a great time and you learn a lot. However, it terms of selectivity -I guess you can say its not "prestigious" because it lacks selectivity.
