Since it's almost homecoming season here, I thought I'd share this with you guys.

For most high schools in the nation, there's the pep rallies, spirit week, homecoming king&queen, the game, etc. For Texas (and the general area of the southern United States), we have our own tradition of exchanging Homecoming mums (for girls) and garters (for guys). Think of it as exchanging corsages, sort of.

Garter

The day of the homecoming game / the night before the dance, guys and girls all put on the mums and garters for school spirit. The whole school ends up sounding like a bunch of cows with all the bells though. Despite the huge flashy nature, it's always interesting to see how much people get into it.

Wow you guys must have a lot of school spirit. If someone in my school was walking around with that it would probably get confiscated for "interrupting the classroom environment"
