teams run for about 2-3 miles (not sure on the distance)
and points are given based on what place individual runners finish
but its a team sport...so everyone has to run well in order to place well
first place gets 1 point, second place 2...bu like golf, the SMALLER your number of total points is, the better you do
at least I think thats how the scoring goes

That much running deserves to be a sport. haha
Hmm ... I always thought that you get 10 points for 1st like Track and Field.
I might be wrong ... I've never tried out before. xD

in my book cross country isnt a sport.. doesnt have any sort of ball you can play with.
Sport - an active diversion requiring physical exertion and competition
join the team, endure the whole season, then you can tell me it's not a sport
for my school team, in practices, the coach gives you a mileage per week base on your skill level, the group you're in
we run around the neighborhood every day after school, it's expected that you run on weekends + breaks, every once in a while we do intervals to work on speed, most of the time they're hell
mileage increases as the season progresses
it's a lot of self discipline, coaches aren't to watch you while you run, they don't beat you if you slack off
but it's you and the team who suffers on race day you if you screw off
for meets we'd run 5k, unless for some reason then it might be under
it's usually in forest parks, there was almost always a hill, not a mini little hill either
scoring is pretty much what crackednut said
for us, only points for the first 5 (i think, heheh... forgot -__-") members who finished counts in the final score
this year was my first time, and at the beginning I'd ask myself, why the hell am I killing myself like this?
I wasn't in it for track, I've never ran like this before, I did it 'cause one day my friend who had never done it talked me into it
but now I love it, it's awesome, everyone on the team was awesome
as for uniforms, yes we got jerseys. and guys had to wear short-shorts for meets

I'd say it's an endurance sport .
Seriously , I was asked to join the team a few years back as a second sport . Well , I didn't die during the endurance test . I died in the stamina test . Darn , I never knew running for the cross-country was so tough . Grrrr , it was during the competition session when our head of department said it's okayy and we could just go back to our original sport . Pfttt , she said she was just experimenting on how the swimmers were going to cope with cross-country . Just when I was getting the hang of it all .. Humph !
Ohh well . Yes , cross-country do get their own tracksuits . In fact , if you represent for school and your school's kind of like a school that produce top runners , you actually get sponserships . Yup !
Hmmm . Cross-country's really fun when he've got your stamina bar to full . It isn't really that tough once youve got your stamina going . Then it's just endurance all the way . I wouldn't mind going back to train with the cross-country team . My stay there was .. memorable .

Thats a big insult
you dont need a ball in a sport to be considered a sport
theres no other sport that runs as much as we cross country people do.
its easy to get in, because its a no cut sport (at least for my school), but the real challenge is, STAYING in the sport.
yes, it will basically kill you if you are unfit.
lol.
first, i was really unfit, i joined the sport to get back in shape.
the team's motivation will basically keep you in the group.
and its a fun sport too, because if you play other sports, for example, vball, you only have like 8 other teammates. in xcountry, you have at least 50 other people
Why cry? I'm a stronger girl now because of you. So, why cry?

Yes, cross country is a KILLER if you're unfit, and still a killer even if you ARE fit. The hills you have to run are steep, and ou are expected to jog at a decent speed up those hill and continue the race...
For us, the scoring is the team with 5 runners to finish first wins, so it's REALLY a team sport because even though you do you're own running, you score as a whole team.
Haha.. I think everyone in cross country asks themselves "Why the hell am I killing myself like this?" I mean, seriously, we're just running and feeling like our feet is going to fall off and we're having an asthma attack. But aside from that, the whole team (which is like 80 people) is like a family and we support one another. You make so many new friends and get to travel to different places. For me, it's one of the best things that's happened to me.
Uniforms? Hecka tight tops with extremely short shorts where you feel like your butt if showing. Yup. These uniforms show almost everything, so we kidd around saying how we had to stay in shape so people won't see our hanging fat. It's not like you can possibly become fat in cross country. xD

But it did lower my mile time by 3 minutes.
And yes, it is a sport.

you run like hell up the mountains which leaves no mercy.
after awhile you get used to it.
definitely shows endurance towards the human body and how much just can you exceed you limit.
yes you get jerseys and afterwards a nice cool tshirt

Basically, you run like there's no tomorrow and your very life depends on it. It is so very, very tiring and in the beginning, your legs feel like lead and jelly. But I've gotten used to it. I've stopped though, so if you feel like you want to do it, DO NOT GIVE UP! And soaking a tube full of ice water REALLY helps. Feels sooooooo~ good.
