Say you're renting an apartment with two other friends for $1000. It has 2 bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen, and living room. Both bedrooms are the same size and two of you decide to share a room. How would you split the rent? 500/250/250? 400/300/300? Whats the reasoning?

You should ask for a floor plan of your apartment....then calculate by the square feet....
this is to be fair not to be stingy. However, if you know for sure that both rooms are equal in area,
or if your rough estimate is good enough..then the split should be 500/250/250. The person who decided
to get his/her own room has greater benefits by having his/her own private space...so he/she should pay more.

if you're splitting the room, then i think both of you should pay $250 and the other person that's getting the whole room should pay $500

no just because 2 people are sharing a room doesnt mean they should split the rent in half (in my opinion). that seems a little unfair for the person with his/her own room, even if that person does have his own room.

I think it should be 400/300/300

500/250/250 is clearly unfair,
since you three will be sharing equally the REST of the apartment. unless she gets half of everything in the apartment.

400/300/300 seems the more fair out of the two. But the one with the single bedroom should buy dinner or something. Seems kind of cheap for a WHOLE room for 100 more. That's my opinion.

I think 500/250/250 is the better choice.....but I have a feeling you guys might do the 400/300/300 to be fair to the last person.

It really doesn't matter what you guys decide to do...whatever you all agree on is what matters.

I doubt that 500/250/250 is fair at all for any one of you.
You guys will be sharing the living room, kichen, etc and why should the person with a room pay half of the rent when he/she has to share the rest of the apartment with two other people?

400/300/300 sounds good.

yeah, thats basically what im trying to decide between..

500/250/250 - we arent just paying for the bedrooms only.. we're also sharing the rest of the apartment, so we shouldnt split prices according to bedrooms

400/300/300 - the person paying 400 gets a lot more privacy and space at a relatively small premium

Maybe 450/275/275? So the other person would be paying 175 more? Things are pretty complicated when it comes to money matters between friends. If you end up overcharging or getting too little, it'll cause tension before you guys move in together.

i think it should be 400/300/300.
it feels unfair if that one person has to pay all of 500$ even when theyre sharing an apartment with 2 ppl.

play musical chairs. lol. uhh. seriously, i dont think 500/250/250 is justified because the person with one bedroom will not be using half of the apartment, like, that person will only be using a third of the water/power etc, its just that she has more land area.
Have you guys decided who will be the single? Is the single person willing to cough up a little more?
A truly fair way to do it is if you rotated beds once every while and split it 333 each, however this doesn't seem very practical.
Maybe you guys can do it this way, do you expect to recieve guests much? maybe put a guest bed in the single room, and this could well justify 400/300/300 or something similar, as she has to share with a guest every so often.
money is just one of many issues that will arise, other issues maybe food, and cleaning, the issues of quiet time, etc, so, maybe you should clarify these issues also.

definitely 450/275/275. 400/300/300 seems unfair to the roomies and 500/250/250 seems unfair to the single.

i was in this exact same situation once... we just decided on an arbitrary amount, no fancy calculating square footage or whatnot. definitely not anything where the girl with the single paid twice the amount.

i think 450/(2*275) is good. if no one is willing to pay 450, then 400/300/300 because you've all proven the privacy isn't worth enough to pay that much more for it.
