happy for her that she made the cover of Stuff but again I HATE how stuff only puts "average" asian women on their covers such as Tila Nguyen and YunJin cos to the rest of america, they think thats how all asian women look. i wish they would use some realy prety asians on their covers

Will only happen if a truly pretty girl gets famous here. i am not holding my breath though...the asian female models used in the US would never be considered hot in asia. i think westerners have a different idea of what is hot. i think Kim Tae Hee is one of the most beautiful asians today but western people might consider lucy liu to be hotter. either that or they are just looking for women who conform to their idea of what an asian woman should look like (hello? those cover girl models are not even close to attractive). this is my opinion so don't flame me.

but Yunjin looks good on this cover.

Hollywood did the same thing to black women and latinas too before change slowly started happening. hopefully, it will happen for asians too. i am persoally sick of the same imagery of asians being shown again and again...this is why i have to resort to korean dramas!!

i wish hollywood show more diversity in how asians look. just as they are starting to with black women and latinas. i.e. kelly hu and kim tae hee. both incredibly beautiful women, but totally different looks.

I don't think it has anything to do with "keeping white girls on top." Because alot of the famous hollywood sex symbols/celebrities are NOT white.

Kim YooJin is on the cover because 1) She has a hot body and 2)She is a star from Lost. And they are doing a spread on the girls from Lost.

Besides, people have different views of beauty.

ok i'm gonna put aside the fact that i despise the way stuff and maxim portray their cover models... i guess it's just the way men's magazines work. like i hate the styling here, but i'm sure guys like it. i still love yunjin kim and i love that they put her on the cover instead of one of the other women on lost... i just got evangeline lilly on the cover of my elle magazine, but i would've preferred to see yunjin!

I don't think it has anything to do with "keeping white girls on top." Because alot of the famous hollywood sex symbols/celebrities are NOT white.

that's the situation NOW but back in the day, before you and i were born, black women were portrayed in an UN-gorgeous and homely way, as were Latinas. Change has been slowly happening but blacks and latinas who are considered gorgeous today wouldn't have had a shot to be as big as they are back then. Black women were portrayed as being fat, dark maids to white people (e.g. "Gone with the Wind.") There was a show on the 70s or 60s about a black nurse...it was considered groundbreaking because the black lead was a BEAUTIFUL and educated character....but that show OFFENDED some whites because they thought that the black lady was too beautiful to be black (i saw this on a doumentary at school about minority rep in the media). So yeah, there ia a lot of racism and discrimination. It's been changing because more people of color have been operating in HOllywood in recent years. Zhang Ziyi an Gong Li were stars in ASIA first so they aren't an example of women who Hollywood has nurtured. they are simply exports of Asia. I am still waiting for a Kim Hee Sun or a Kim Tae Hee, who speaks perfect English to break it in Hollywood. I know for a fact that there are tons of gorgeous Asian Americans who are struggling to make it in Hollywood but Hollywood won't consider them because they don't fit the Lucy Liu look.

ditto. I hate how they portrayed the Asians. They may consider Lucy Liu to be really pretty or hot, but there are far more gorgeous asian women out there. I hate the fact how they portrayed asians of having small eyes. Hopefully there will be changes in the Hollywood.
