There's already a Chinese celebrity thread...i think this thread should be merged with the other one
http://www.soompi.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=6222 (differentiating b/w Mainland, TW, HK isn't all that necessary).
Sorry, I thought I saw it, but I didn't see it a few pages back and so I thought I got it confused with one of the many Chinese threads going around.
I guess this one was more for new pics, and new celebs. I guess I thought it should be separated because of the differences in the media, but if you don't think it should that's okay. Whatever the mods decided. For whomever asked:
Mainland Entertainment -
The budgets are usually many times higher than the HK TVB productions or the Taiwanese shows. There are quite a lot of crappy shows, but many of them have painstaking production values. The shows are more serious, more oriented towards an audience that's older than the average Soompier. There are very few idol dramas, and even these are not your average idol dramas with the all-around happy ending, or tragic death by leukemia. They often portray a more realistic look at life, whether it be in the present, during the pre-revolution times, or the ancient costume drama time period.
The movies are more art-house than HK or Taiwan, about deeper subjects that touch on issues like The Three Gorges Dam (Still Life, Venice Film Festival winner). There are starting to be more mainstream films like 601st phone call, but still not a whole lot.
Some have really big production values compared to the other Asia countries, like around 20-40 million.
HK Entertainment -
Hong Kong was the staple of the movie industry in Asia until recently when it just started going downhill. I think several reasons for this are the fact that as the mainland industry is booming, less of their talent like Jet Li and Faye Wong is going over there, and not just actors and . Basically, the TVB productions are really low budget and so are the movies. "Quality" is not a word I would use to describe them.
As for it's movies, they are churning out lots of crap nowadays, though there are still some really decent gems among the few, like Beyond Our Ken, but these are so few.
Taiwanese Entertainment -
The Taiwanese are the only ones that have really perfected the idol drama that's so popular on Soompi. I think It Stated With a Kiss was it's pinnacle. They usually have young, fairly good looking actors, with a range of talent, though not really that great because they are picked more for their looks.
As for it's movie industry, it's in pretty bad shape now. They have very few releases compared to the mainland and HK, like really, really few. They also have a harder time with funding because their population is so small. They have more artistic successes than HK despite their lack of movie releases, like with Yi Yi and Bluegate Crossing. Nowadays however, they have like nada coming out of the woodworks.
Also, one thing I noticed for this page was that it took really long to load. Can we keep the picture posting per page to a minimum? Like say maybe a few pictures per post? Don't get me wrong. I think the pics you posted were gorgeous though! In that other thread too~
