If anyone is willing to evaluate my stats and whether I have a chance at the college I want to go to, it would be GREATLY appreciated.
Well, I want to to go UCLA. I'm currently a Junior in HS and have more credits than I should have thus far (I entered High school with 2 credits from being in advanced classes).
The way my school works, you have 8 classes a year (split into 4 classes each semester), so that makes a total of 32 classes throughout highschool. 28 credits is what you need to graduate high school. Is it better for me to just go through school all they way through and end up with 34 credits? Or is cutting it off at 28 okay?
My GPA is 3.983 and I take a bunch of AP and Honors classes.
I've a total of 3 B's and 16 A's on my transcript so far.
I'm the number one runner for the girl's varsity cross-country team qualified for state championships my sophomore year. I also play soccer, tennis, and run track.
I'm half korean and half spanish. Female. speak more than one language.
There ya go. Any help would be appreciated. I've narrowed down my schools and really have my heart set on UCLA. Now I just need to know what my chances are.
BTW, I haven't taken the SAT's yet, so what would a good score for UCLA be on that?

your stats sounds pretty GOOD... just concentrate on your SAT's now... a pretty impressive score for good UC's would be around 2000 -2200'ish? ... plus your SAT II subject tests...
and ALSO, you might want to join more extra curricular activities, like clubs and stuff, volunteering, etc. to show that you are INVOLVED...
overall, i think your chances are pretty good.

Are you for real? If I were you I'd be pretty much positive about getitng into ucla.
Even if your sat scores arent that great, even if its under 2000 your still more than set to go :]
but like the person above me said, if you dont have any community service, it would be a good idea to get some crammed somewhere into your already overflowing schedule :]

Don't mean to sound racist here, but if you plan on applying to UCLA, make sure you apply as Hispanic and not Asian. This reason is because Asians and whites make up the largest number of applicants to schools with prestige such as UCLA, and thus it actually becomes a disadvantage to be an Asian applicant since schools wants to maintain a level of diversity.
I'm not sure what UCLA's policy regarding affirmative action is like anymore though. I'll try digging around some time and see what I can find.

i think you have more than a good chance of getting in. as long as you don't do terrible on the SAT you should be fine. there's a more appropriate forum for your question: college confidential. really good site, you should check it out.
ps: i would definately apply as hispanic as the member above recommended.

Apply as hispanic? Well is that ups my chances, I definitly don't have a problem with it. But if I apply as both Asian AND Hispanic, isn't that better? I fill two of their quotas.
edti: now that I think about it, being asian doesn't fill one of their quotas. Half the student population there is asian!
And thanks everyone for you input. I wil def. look into community service or something. Would tutoring cover that?

i dont really think tutoring falls under the category of community service. I believe that falls under the previous work experience category in the UC applications. (which looks good on the application too :]) Look for something that involves actually helping out the community i.e. helping out at the local senior center, a hospital volunteer.. something of that nature~ good luck.
