I understand.
But when you make that line thing, do you make a rectangular marquee and 'fill' it with a color, than lower the opacity? Or... nevermind. -0- I think I get it. Thank you!

another question

cred to blue giraffe.
Does anybody know how to make those two curved lines that kind of circles the image? If you know how to use the pen tool, it's a matter of clicking out your path, then stroking it with the appropriate brush. I find that many people find the pen tool too 'difficult' to understand and use, so try to find easier ways to do things. In the end, they miss out on a huge chunk of what Photoshop can do.
Draw out a vertical straight line/thin rectangle in whatever way is most comfortable for you. An example of how to do that would be to use the Rectangular Marquee tool to draw out a thin, tall rectangle, then fill it with whatever color on a new layer.
Free transform that layer, and while holding the Ctrl or Cmd key, click and drag the top right or left corner towards the center, until you get a sharp point at the top.
Then go into 'Filter>Distort>Shear' and play with the curvature to get the curves you want.
Create another curve by following the above steps on a new layer, then rotate it to match the flat end of the first curve.
I'm a little high, so this may not be totally clear.
Let me know if you need visuals.
My highest recommendation would be to learn about the Pen tool, however.
