question about GIFs
what type of programs would everyone reccomend for gif making? the way i make gifs is rather complicated, and i wanted to find an easier way.
- well, first i extract the clip i want using OSS VIDEO DECOMPILER, leaving me with many very big and bad quality caps.
- then i will open all of the files (usually around 70 pictures) onto jasc psp, which is much easier and faster to use than ps when resizing. but the enhancement tools in there arent as great as ps, so when i do the regular enhancements such as brightness/contrast, curves, it doesnt turn out GREAT! ~ i'm also not very experienced with psp.
- after that i will open up all the extracted files onto jasc animation shop3 to crop the desired size, while loosing more than half of the files, to create a good KB size for soompi.
- and i will then take it to adobe imageready and perhaps add a design.
so all together it'll probably take me an hour or two, just to make one gif.
does anyone have more simple programs i could use? is muddiemurada's gif tutorial the easiest? what are other people's methods? or is this just the way gifs are supposed to be made?
maybe next time when I make GIFS I'll post a tutorial.... they take forever to make and muddie is extremely patient to be making all of those captions and at the same time write out all of the step-by-step directions...
The way I make it is very similar to Muddie's way. My way is probably even longer than her's since I can't load wmv files onto adobe imageready.
Programs I use:
- Adobe photoshop
- Adobe Imageready
- Windows Movie Maker
- And occassionally TMPGEnc to change the file names and all that good stuff.
Windows Movie Maker caps everything I use... What sucks about it is not being able to load the cut version onto imageready and call it a day. I have to move the file one slide at a time and cap. The caps I'd say are pretty good, depending on what kind of quality file you start with.

^ these were awful low quality caps that I worked with... I think they turned out ok.

(it gets pretty boring if you asked me, but the end result is always ohhh so entertaining to watch, anyway that explains why it takes me forever to finish/get inspired to make them) yes... I do get stuck with a lot of captions so sometimes I just skip around. I open each file on PS and create a new file to copy and paste all of the pictures. Just like if making any graphics, PS is great for messing with the quality of the captions. B&W are great to work with when you've got terrible quality stuff. use PS to make the background and add text and then open it to Imageready to save as a GIF.
NO matter what method or differnt steps you come up with, it'll take you a long time to make them.
