thank you for the tutorial, mai biggrin.gif i think you put a lot of people's questions to rest xD

I think someone here asked why there are icon tutorials but no one makes banner tutorials, so I'll post one of mine here. I've actually made three already so far and you can see the rest in my site (click on the gif in my signature).

I'm always curious about people who consider banner making 'different' than icon making.

Thanks for the tutorial.
Just keep in mind that many of the Soompiers don't know what Masks are. Let alone how to use them.
Also, specific settings in dialogues that deal with hues and saturation like in your 'Color Balance' adjustment layer step (as well as pretty much all other numeric settings) will generally depend on the image they're working with.

Thanks for contributing.

Hehe, sorry, I know the color settings doesn't apply to every image. I mentioned that in another tutorial but I guess I should've mentioned it here again ^^;; Same goes for the masks.

Not too different from making Gifs on a Windows system.
It depends on the program you're planning to use.

Been eyeing this effect on the skin: Examples

Credits to Sung Yuri thread.

Can anybody teach me how to achieve this effect on the skin of people/overall? So flawless and clean?
The colors are nice too...It's so smooth, glossy and shiny.

Thank!

okay so i have a question regarding cs3 extended. forgive me if this has been answered before.
why is it that whenever i open a blinkie image, like those animated things, the frames won't show?. i mean back then when i had imageready whenever i open an animated file, it also opens the frames and whatnot. so does cs3 allow you to do the same like in imageready?.

I actually discovered a way to open it with all the frames showing and so far it has worked.

Go to File>Import>Video Frames to Layers
-the loading window will pop up. Go to the folder that has the gif. Now enter '*.*' and press load.
open up the gif and another thing pops up. Make sure the setting is at 'From the Beginning to End'.
Press okay and there you go!

Hope I helped

Uhm, I'm very new to PS and my skills are worse than pffft.
So, how do you make this kind of banner?

and this kind of icons?

^ for the banner, you can just crop pictures using rounded borders (there's a rounded borders tut in the index) and some really small text (so they can't read it), add some larger text (the text that you want people to read) and then use a heart brush, or just draw it with your mouse.

as for the icons, it's pretty much just the way they cropped it and colored. crop the picture to how you want it to look, add a selective coloring layer, and adjust it to your wants. add small text/hearts and that's pretty much it. the soft lines going diagonally on the first one is probably a texture that you can find anywhere or make it yourself, and just change the blending mode on it.
i hate when there's a seemingly interesting story but i can't read through it because the writing is SO. BAD.

it must just be the picture they started out with was like this already. or maybe they just soft-brushed the pictures like crazy or used the gaussian blur filter and then faded it with Shift + Ctrl + F. There's also the possibility that they used an expensive non-grainy filter, but that's a lot less likely biggrin.gif

I believe both of these are shapes that come with Photoshop.

hmm it looks like a lighting effect. i'd play around with it a bit. go to filter > render > lighting effects. it looks about 40% brightness. don't go all out or it'll look ridiculously bright.
you could also mess around with the contrast levels and stuff lol

Before anything else i'd like to thank everyone who helped me on my previous question.

I have another question though. . . do you guys know any site where I could get good tutorials on blinkies? Or are there anyone who's willing to share some tutorials or tips on blinkies. ^^ thanks in advance again.

mellow.gif seriously. You don't get what jasonyc trying to say or?.
Read the main rules of this forum before asking.
If you already have photoshop, why do you even bother to ask?
Everything takes time to learn. Be specific when asking, then maybe people can help you.

^ make sure your new file isn't in "Grey" but "RGB". It happened to me before.

okay, possibly dumbest question ever, but I made something on my laptop (which is pretty ancient), and when I view it on another computer (with super clear LCD, great brightness and contrast and etc. o_O) was appalled to see my work so much darker and low-contrasted than it looks on my computer. Also things that I erased, while unseen on my computer, were VISIBLE on this supercomputer o_O (brush lower than 100% for soft effects, but I thought I covered it up with other things...).

Is there any way to work around this? When your computer LCD sucks...?
I want to write, and be genuinely nice to people.
