I have the exact same problem T_T It would look so good on my computer but when i went on my laptop..i could still see so much flawsT______T
anyway i jsut wanted to thank everyone who took the time to put up tutorials! They're all really helpful!
I browsed through this entire thread in...2 days and its REALLY helped improve my ps skills=D
i just wanna add what jasonyc have said before. beside from the setting of your monitor, or difference between each monitor or either you using laptop and pc, there is one problem that always bothering. the graphic card itself. maybe if you have set your monitor into default and so do the others but there still any difference on your graphic result, i guess that because of the graphic card.
from what i know this far Nvidia lates graphic card is the best for designing and gaming...

Make sure 'Resolution' is set properly.
72 is the web standard.
300 is the print standard.
yeah i did that,
but the problem is
still there. is it broken or something?

Are you typing with a font requiring all CAPS for it to show up ?
And is the typer layer at the very top of the layer pallet so nothing's covering it?

Some fonts require you to type in all caps. Try typing with CAPS LOCK on and see if the letters come up(:

Oh. Well the only thing I can think of is instead of just clicking onto the picture, click and then drag to make a text box instead.
If that doesn't work then I'm not sure; sorry :\

-influence- you need to click on the small black/white box then click on the big black box (that was the gray) box..
then it will change color.

If its the black and white box near the gray one, I tried that.

First make sure that your document is RGB . Not Grayscale.
Then if that's not the problem make sure your top layer in your layer palette is not a layer like a Hue/Saturation layer or anything like that because it makes your colors neutral too . Making a new layer should work fine(:.
