hmm. I want to make a background w/ boxes like this picture: CLICK
but i'm not sure how to do it. *shrugs* please help?
ps the picture is from the soompi secret santa thread. (;
>__< please. transparency should not be used as a bg
it just makes the image 'incomplete'
BUT if u MUST know (kathymon's way is the ms paint way of doing it)
1. COPY THIS IMAGE:

2. go to photoshop and paste that image above (file>new>48x48 72 dpi and RGB)
3. go to edit>define pattern>give it a name (ie stupid transparent pattern)
4. make a NEW file like 500x500 px and select you PAINTBUCKET fill tool and select 'pattern' and choose that pattern u made on the drop box:

5. make a new layer and fill ur transparent bg
and having said all that.... i still don't like the pattern

like this:

I have read that all you have to do is make a new layer and fill it with white and set it to multiply and that I should also make sure that the eye is present on each and every layer but I did all that and nothing happened but just my image changing its color a bit, like it's fading in white.
This is what I did step by step:
I opened the gif file.
Then I made a new layer.

Then I made sure that the eye is present on each and every layer.

Then I filled the new layer with white, see that the other layers faded except for the last one.

Then I tried to stroke it with blue. But the whole image goes blue.

Where did I go wrong?
If anyone could also take some screencaps please?
thank you to whoever will be kind enough to help me.

The simplest way to add that border to a gif like that:
- Image > Canvas Size
- Add 8 to each Height and Width (example: if originally, image was 50x50, change it to 58x58)
- Make sure Anchor is in the middle.
- Make a new layer and make it BOTTOM layer (not the top as you have it)
- Fill the new layer white
- Select > All (selects the entire white layer)
- Edit > Stroke - Inside, 1 pixel, 50% Gray
And you have a white border with a thin gray line around it.

Make sure the Fill tool's opacity is at 100% before you fill the layer.
Yours was set to 30%

How about if I want the texts to appear only on the first and last frame?

^like that one, the text only appeared in the end.

If you've followed GIF animation tutorials before, you'll notice that every element that needs to be animated is usually on its own layer.
To show that layer in a given frame (or frames), the layer visibility icon (eye) next to to the layer thumbnail should be clicked on.
Hiding the layer means clicking that eye off (eye disappears).

I have no idea why, but a .psd file I'm trying to open won't work anymore. I keep getting this message from Photoshop Elements:
"Could not complete your request because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop"
And from GIMP
"Unexpected end of file while reading 'layer extra data block signature chunk" " "Photoshop image plug-in could not open image"
These were working fine last night.. I don't know how to fix it. I've been using the same two programs and computer. Please help I've been working around 2-3 days on this.
Thanks

I tried but this is what happened.

The edges are like crooked.. I erased the extra edges and stroked it but that is what happens! I have seen some whose edges are really smooth.
specially with the hair part, it's so hard to stroke it without getting crooked edges.
And how to save images looking hq? coz i'm working on my sig and on the sig rules it says that can't exceed 40 kb so is there any trick to make images look so hq without exceeding 40 kb?
