Unless you're planning on making prints, I think 5MP and up would be good quality O: But check out the Canon Powershot SD series...I heard they're good (:

Ya, canon is good with their sd series.. 7mp is over the top. I have a 6 and it's prosumer. so ya. Try the SD or A series from canon they make good point and shooters.
I am the minority here.

Canon Powershot A710 IS - 7.1 Megapixels

Canon Powershot A630 - 8 Megapixels

Canon Powershot S80 - 8 Megapixels

Canon Powershot SD900 - 10 Megapixels

I doubt you need that much megapixels unless you're making big prints. sweatingbullets.gif

But these are the ones that I most like and want to buy ... (besides the Canon Rebel XT, but that's a D-SLR) biggrin.gif

wow...sd900's titanium! but the 800 has the image stablizer...
wish they just combined them both...make some 950 model that has everything in both tongue.gif

though i'd be perfectly content with the sd700 is...which im thinking will cost even less with the new models out. last i checked the sd700 was ~360.

HP has some nice 7+ Megapixel cameras. I don't have one, but their nice camera's. I want the 7 megapixel one, but i'm happy with my 5 megapixel camera (which is an HP)

HP Photosmart R967 (10 megapixel)

HP Photosmart R927 (8 megapixel)

HP Photosmart M627 (7 megapixel)

HP Photosmart R827 (7.2 megapixel)

I think all of the brans listed are very good. But i have the Nikon and it works REALLY good. Nikon focuses on the lenses, so thats really something you can trust.

You can check them out if you'd like. But i'd go to the store and ask the "pros" who know it all to reccomend you something. wink.gif

Totally agree with Joonage. 6MP is totally enough if you don't have to print some pix as tall as yourself (i'm serious) (i'm a D-SLR user and both my Nikon D50 and Pentax K100D are 6MP)

an image stablizer's more important. invest ur money on that.

you can get a canon sd700 + 1GB SD card for $341.08 on newegg.com
hurry while the deal lasts!!!

also, i checked out the fuji finepix30 recently...and i gotta say, that's a really awesome camera. i saw some sample shots and the noise level at higher ISO's were incredible! probably one of the best compacts out in the market right now...and giving canon incentive to put some extra effort into its point and shoot cameras.

Canon makes some of the best point and shoot's. If you're really interested in photography, you might try getting an entry level SLR like the Nikon D70 or Canon 30D.

dont know about you, but i dont know too many people who can afford a 30D AND buy sufficient glass to make the most of it. i'd rather start with an xti and buy better lenses. happy.gif

this is what i have. it just came out about a week ago. and yeah since i love pink i bought it. Its really cute and takes really good pictures... it comes in white, sliver, and black. its about 7.2 megapiexls and really compact.

its 399.95 but with tax its like around 440.00 and if you buy warranty then its about 500.00 and you need to buy a memory duo stick... and thats about 40-100 dollars. BUT ITS SO WORTH IT.
