As for the nightmare scenario I highly doubt Ms. Rhimes would do it. It's just an example that keeps popping into my head every now and again as a way of salvaging such a lackluster season. I don't think the fans would respond the same way fans responded to the Dallas nightmare scenario, people like you would be peeved if something like that happened and in many cases would simply stop watching the show altogether.
The question about Meredith & Derek is will Meredith be strong enough to stand by like Derek did for so many years without retreating back into her "broken" alter ego? Her character has grown a lot over the season but she never really seems to be in "that" place where she can stand on her on and be the strong person she needs to be in order to face the obstacles at work and in her personal life.
You watch like so many other people watch, because you hope (as you pointed out) that each preceding episode is better than the last. For me the characters really stopped being interesting after the third season (Ferryboat and Jane Doe).
hahaha yes, it's a horrible habit i just can't stop watching because i've already watched this far... just hoping that one day it will just get as good as up to the 3rd season which was when i was really on my toes and totally absorbed into the show!
i really miss burke and hahn, i still think christina and burke were so sweet together.
