Turtles still remain at No. 1 with “비행기” (Aeroplanes). Overall this song has been No. 1 for 5 weeks (non-consecutive). If they stay on top for next week, it will be the first song ever in this chart to record 6 or more weeks on top. Several other songs had been 5 weeks No. 1. With the top 3 songs remaining unchanged for yet another week, and with M!Countdown not having a show this past Thursday, I’d say Turtles have a very good chance to stay at No. 1 next week.

Park Jung Ah’s first solo song “Yeah” moves up 7 spots to No. 4, looking to become the next No. 1 song, or at least challenge the top 3 songs which seem to have remained there forever.

However, Park Jung Ah’s song is not our biggest mover. It belongs to Shinhwa’s “Throw My Fist”, which rebounded from No. 19 to No. 11 this week. It looked as if this song was on the way out, but has made an impressive come back this week.

There are 4 new songs this week, led by Paran’s “다섯걸음” (Five Steps) at No. 9. Paran debuted late last year, and both singles of their 1st album barely missed entering our top 20. This time, they not only make their first appearance on our chart but enter straight into the top 10.

SM entertainment’s prized new female singer Jang Ri In debuted at No. 15 with ‘Timeless” (featured Xiah of DBSG), while YG family’s prized new group Big Bang entered at No. 19 with “눈물뿐인 바보” (Tears of a Fool). Both companies spent a lot of time and effort to train and to promote them. They have a bright future for sure.

The last new song was Lee Jung’s “그대 그대 그대” (You You You) at No. 17. It was the follow up song on his 3rd album. The first single “열” (Fever) made it to the top 10 earlier this year.

ARTIST OF THE WEEK - TRAX



Our featured artist this week is SM's new young rock group TRAX. They may not be as well known as their labelmates DBSG and Super Junior, but they can also hold their own. Recently they scored their first top 20 hit "초우" (Cold Rain) - a rock ballad which increase their mass appeal. Let's find out more about them:

BIOGRAPHY
‘The Trax’, is making waves not only in Korea but in Japan too. The Japanese ‘Sankei sports’ ran a story recently about the group’s promotion video shoot on location in Tokyo about the turnout of some 350 fans and the sheer scale which involved helicopters and the likes.

The beginning of the ‘Trax’ is already a history in the making that was unheard of in the Korean music scene. Under the careful orchestration of the hit factory ‘SM Entertainment’ which is responsible for the likes of ‘H.O.T.’, ‘Shinwha’ and “BoA’, the ‘Trax’ is its latest venture for them for the global market which took 4 years to materialize. With this in mind their first single, ‘Paradox’ was written by the group ‘ICON-X’, which consists of composers from both Korea and Japan.

The ‘Trax’s music can be described as a ‘crossover’, which is a blend of different genres that includes ‘Hip-pop’, ‘Trip-pop’, ‘Soul Electric’ and ‘Acid’ with the base in ‘Rock’. And this isn’t the first time that’s been done in the music scene as it is similar to that of ‘Limp Bizkit’, ‘Linin Park’ and ‘Seo Tai-Ji’ in some ways, but with the backing of ‘SM Entertainment’, it is anybody’s guess how things will turn out. In addition, with the members’ good looks, often regarded as an important factor and their musicianship in question, the destiny of ‘Trax’ will be a hard one to predict.

Eru has returned after a year with a more mature image. His 2nd album title song is ‘black glasses’. Yoon Myung-Sun wrote the lyrics and produced this song. (He also wrote and produced Jang Yoon-Jung’s song ‘Oh My God!’). Famous movie star, Ahn Sung-Gi has been chosen to be in Eru’s music video. This is Ahn’s first time acting in a music video after his debut. Ahn with be acting with actress Lee Young-Ah and singer Kim Hyun-Joong (from SS501). All three of them will be involved a love triangle. This song is about lovers learning the beauty of departing and remembering the pains of loving. We will be able to hear Eru’s sorrowful voice this autumn. ‘Come back to me’ and ‘Take off’ are two songs that were produced by Jeon Seung-Woo. (Jeon produced Eru’s title song from his 1st album ‘If I were to be born again and WheeSung’s ‘Story that I cannot tell’). We will be able to feel Eru’s smooth voice, which is one of his great trademarks. The song ‘Heart break’ is written and produced by Eru himself. Through his 2nd album, Eru can be known as a singer as well as a songwriter. The last track on his album titled ‘Ohk-Kyung’ is a hit song that his father, Tae Jin-Ah sang in the past. It's in an archive within the archive. Click on January week 1 archive and scroll down to the end of my post, you will see the archive for October to December 2005. We lost all the data before October 2005 due to the big crash. However, I do keep record on my own. If you want to know any particular week before October 2005, PM me.
