DJ Mag Top 100 Poll Voting Continues with the US Casting the Most Votes

This headline concerns us in more ways than one. If the U.S. is leading the votes we might have a Jonathan Peters upset over Paul van Dyk. As you may already know, Jonathan Peters took top honors in yet another populist vote - the DJ Times sponsored America's Best DJ Award. JP beat out BT, Danny Tenaglia, Deep Dish and Erick Morillo. We can't take those sad eyes staring at us though. Stop! Ok we'll vote for you Paul. Especially now that Tiësto doesn't want us to vote for him. In lieu of votes, you can send flowers to his In Search of Sunrise memorial instead. Wait! We reported that Tiësto is not dead! He'll live on to see another sunrise. We stand firmly by our quality propoganda. Now for the "real news"...

Dance music fans around the world unite for Top 100 DJs Poll…

The whole world is dancing! Dance music fans from 228 different countries have voted for their favourite DJs in our Top 100 DJs poll this year. That’s an amazing figure given that there are only 243 countries on the planet.

Last year we received votes from 147 countries – so that’s a leap of 81 countries getting involved in this year’s poll, proving that dance music truly is a global phenomenon. With statistics like that we could be in the running for a Guinness World Record. This could be the widest census the world has ever seen, beating any democratic vote or poll.

“This has blown us all away,” said DJmag’s Editor Lesley Wright. “It’s both incredible and astounding. We could be considered for a Guinness World Record, and we’ve been in touch with Professor Anthony Giddens, Director of the London School of Economics and one of the world’s leading globalization experts, to confirm that this is the widest poll the world has ever seen. “It’s another positive sign for dance music and we love nothing more than sticking it to the detractors out there.”

As DJmag went to press, dance music fans from six of the seven world continents had voted, leaving just Antarctica. Unbelievably, we’ve received votes from far-out places such as Uganda, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, Lebanon, Israel, Saudi Arabia and Iran, proving that no matter what language you speak or religion you follow electronic music is a uniting force.

There are 202 sovereign states in the world according to online resource Wikipedia and altogether it considers 243 entities to be countries, meaning dance music has touched virtually every single territory on Earth. The world is becoming united by electronic beats and, in 2006, dance music is a phenomenon that transcends boundaries fuelled by the internet.

Lesley added: “The fact that DJmag can provide an annual focal point for dance music fans around the world with our Top 100 DJs poll is something that makes us extremely proud.”

The Top 100 DJs 2006 will be exclusively revealed at London club Fabric on Wednesday 25th October.

Vote now at www.djmag.com. Voting closes IN ONE WEEK on 25th September.
