So, who has work study? do you like it? I qualified for it, but its not really going to help me out financially (thats what i need)- so i 'm not sure if i want to or not.

It's not too bad. The employers know you are a student so your schedule is planned around your classes, no time conflicts. You also get to know college staff people you might have otherwise never known. A big plus is not having to leave campus for a job if you have no car and live on campus (which I do X_x).
Pay-wise, it doesn't help a whole lot. It does cover for anything extra I might want outside of school supplies. Clothes, games, books... It's also a good thing to work and save the money. You may frown on the $1500 a semester or whatever but it does help you not worry about immediate money needs. It's always nice to have pocket money.
Unless you have your own car or have huge gaps between classes or free time in your day, it's pretty much impossible to get a job that would pay enough pay for your rent or tuition or whatever it is you need it for.

i got work study. Where i work is actually very cool, even after my work study $$ runs out the dept is still willing to pay me from outside funds. I returned to work yesterday and today my boss told me i got a raise! But if you really need money maybe you should work off campus. Atleast there you aren't limited to hours.

i pretty much agree with Kazen88...

what u earn from work study will help u pay for unexpected expenses...

with work schedule.. you submit your own schedule and you can even work 2 hours a day during your busy days...

i just started 2 weeks ago... and at the moment, the dept. is not really busy... i've got nothing to do... so my supervisor told me to bring my school work so i can study...

and like Kazen88 said... you meet college staff/faculty... in my experience... they helped me a lot in college...

i used to work at the counseling center... and i got to know all the secretaries and counselors... that was my freshman year... i transferred to a uni and im working right now at a research lab... and i told my supervisor about my interest in research and she said i can talk to her boss, the co-director of the research center...

i was thinking of looking for another job... like off campus.. but then... with my major which is nursing.. work-study helps a lot...

ichiban - that's really great... i dun think my school does that.. raise and no limits to working hours...

I really love my work study job...it's so fun smile.gif
I only work a few hours a week and a lot of employers are flexible with hours and stuff and with certain jobs you can do your homework on the job. Anyway, work study is just like a regular job except you can only earn a certain amount per semester.

You might land an easy job where you sit there in front of a computer and do hw.

i actually do work study. i just had my first shift on thursday and i had so much fun. i work in one of the dining resturants/cafeterias on campus. the people are really chill and hours are so flexible plus friends come and visit so it's just that much more enjoyable. it's hardly any hours...and if it is, it's basically cutting out all those "so i wonder what i should do right now cuz i dont feel like doing hw at the moment" hours.
go on and say it
u need me like a bad habit

Does anyone else get priority registration? I dunno supposively if you work 80 hours free of pay you get priority reg. My boss was nice enough to just give it to me though.

exact-a-mundo! biggrin.gif like somebody already mentioned, i was lucky enough to get that job where i just sit at the computer and do my hw. w00t.gif but during summer school, after taking my final or whatever, i got paid to watch dramas online. AHAHAHA. sweeeeeeet. but the bigger advantages are the ones definitely stated by kazen88. wink.gif bittersweet how i was thrilled to have my first paycheck in my hands, then heart-broken when it went to paying for rent, groceries and bills.-.-

i was eligible for work study since my freshman year but always got rejected for jobs until the summer before my senior year. it's really competitive to get a job here even if you have a permit to work, so i'm definitely grateful for mine. i work around 18hrs/week and get enough money for my rent, food, and misc living expenses. that really helps me a lot. plus, my i love my coworkers and i'm pretty sure i could get a solid reference from my supervisor for future jobs (he constantly tells me how i'm the best work study student he's ever had smile.gif)

The pay for work study is ehhh..I think when I did it as a freshman (in '03) it was $7.70 but the good thing was I didn't have to travel to "work" and it was very flexible around my school schedule.

I'm about to get into work studies right now as a teacher's aid with $9.92/hr. It feels good to work, otherwise I'd feel like a bum.

For my workstudy, all i get is 6.95 so some of you are actually getting better pay than me. But I enjoy working there because my supervisor is upper nice and helps me a lot when I needed her. I get to meet all these faculty who are actually going to be my future professor so that will give me a plus in class. heehehe... it's all about getting experience and meeting people.

i think the best part of work study is knowing that fica isn't going to take a huge chunk out of your paycheck. sadly, i don't have work study. but it kinda makes up since i make more money at bank of america than i would at the school.
