This sounds like an old issue..

Anyway, my dad's computer restarts itself on startup after he gets to the startup screen. And it does it over and over again.

Upon googling, i've found various answers. But now i'm still unsure how to explain it to him. And how to solve it. Would be glad if you techies cold help!

So i'll need the possible cause and solution. Thanks.

Cause: Malware? Loose components in CPU? (all possible)

Solution:
Reformat (bad. i live away from my dad and i doubt he knows how to)? Unplug & plug in all components?

actually i just want to tell him to send it to the shop. but i bet he'll call me incompetent or something along that line.
wood!

Just do an XP repair install.

If you don't care about the data, you can do a simple format. Pop in windows CD, next next next F8 next next well you get the idea, its all on screen and all default. Very easy to do, don't have to unplug or plug in anything. Can do everything from the CD drive+CD case with key. Would be handy to dig up those CDs that came with the computer as well for the drivers. YES you CAN download them, but do you really want to figure out what drivers to get and which model you will need?
