Congraulations to Turtles! Their song "비행기" (Aeroplanes) becomes the first song ever on this chart to stay at the #1 spot for 6 weeks, even though it is not consecutively. Psy's "연예인" (Performer) was #1 for a week in between. This week, Psy's song dropped a spot to #3, exchanging place with Ha Dong Kyun's "그녀를사랑해줘요" (Please Love Her), which moves back up to #2. Again, these 3 songs have conquered the chart for so long, we are hoping to see more movements in October to make the top 20 more interesting.

Most of the songs are falling on the chart this week, but we do have one big mover and 3 new songs debuting with very good spots. SM's newcomer Jang Ri In's "Timeless" moves up 9 big spots to #6 this week. Featuring DBSG's Xiah, this R&B ballad has gained a lot of popularity among younger fans. Critics said that it was a little bit controversial that the song won the SBS Inky Gayo Mutizen award last week, but the song indeed was very popular on most music charts, including this one.

2 of the 3 new songs made it to the top 10 this week. The highest debut is hip hop duo Bae Chi Gi's "마이동풍", debuting at #7. This is a very creative song, with an opera style beginning, and a melody which is more pop-oriented than their debut song "반갑습니다" (Be Happy), which appeared only for 1 week in our chart last year. Bae Chi Gi's 2nd album is recording good sales figures as well.

Also entering the chart into the top 10 at #9 is an All-Star collobration from the stage to behind. 2 of the brightest new R&B female groups in Korea joined forces this time. Kim Yeon Ji, lead singer of See Ya, and Je-A, lead singer of Brown Eyed Girls, collobrated in this song "The Day". Not only that, this song is written and produced by Min Myung Ki, who produced for Gavy NJ, another up and coming R&B female group. So, we are seeing the styles of all 3 groups into one song.

The last debut song also landed in a good spot. Lee Seung Ki's "제발" (Please) is at #13. This is a remake of Lee SoRa's song of the same title. Lee Seung Ki recently released a remake album. We have seen a lot of remake album in k-pop for the last 2 to 3 years. What makes this remake album special is that all songs sung by Lee Seung Ki were previously sung by female singers. Lee Seung Ki offered us a completely different feeling on these songs.

BIOGRAPHY
Our featured artist this week is my favorite rock ballad group MC The Max. They started out as Moonchild, a four-member group. In 2002, 3 of the members formed MC The Max, specializing in rock ballads with a heavy Japanese influence. Their first hit "A Brief Goodbye" was a remake of a classic X-Japan song "Tears" (you may remember this song from Jang Hyuk and Jeon Ji Hyun's movie "Windstruck"). For their 2nd album, they invited famous Japanese singer songwriter Kouji Tamaki (from the legendary group "Safety Zone") to write their title song "Time of Love". This song became their first No. 1 song.

From their 2nd album onwards, MC The Max also collobrated with Kohmi Hirose, a female Japanese singer songwriter. Hirose has written many hit songs for MC The Max over the years, including "You Make Me Cry", "Don't Be Happy", "Sunflower Sometimes Have Neck Pain", and "Love After the Pain". Hirose also remade the song "Don't Be Happy" on her own album after MC The Max made this song famous.

Since their 2nd album, all the title songs from MC The Max's studio albums have reached No. 1 on the music chart, an accomplishment that can only be matched by top artists. Yet, they are still not considered very popular. One of the reasons is that MC The Max usually release their albums in November or December - the winter months fit their sad love songs the best. The songs usually reached No. 1 in January. However, this timing did not work well with all the year end awards taking place in December. That's why MC The Max have not been nominated to many year end awards despite the popularity of their songs.

In 2005, MC The Max also released an remake album in the summer. This album is a salute to lengendary Korean singer Cho Yong Pil. The title song "Goodbye in the Memory" also hit the top 10. This year, MC The Max participated on a project album "Somewhere Over The Rainbow Vol. 2", with the hit song "Searching for Love", producing yet another top 10 hit. They are certainly an underrated group that deserves more attention.

There is no words yet whether they will release their 5th studio album this winter. But based on the previous release patterns, fans are expecting to see MC The Max performing on stage again with their new songs this Winter.

-The BigBang that everyone has seen till now is nothing but an introduction-

YG entertainment’s new group BIGBANG was revealed through a real documentary called ‘BIGBANG’ last summer. BigBang’s first stage appearance was during YG family’s 10th anniversary concert. After releasing their first single album, the music market was dominated and 2000 fans gathered for BigBang’s first signing session. They also debuted in Japan during YG’s world tour. And on September 15th, BigBang held their first showcase and about 2,500 fans showed up. They left a big impression on their fans while holding a special performance that lasted for an hour. BigBang was created/started in July and was promoted as YG entertainment’s idol group. The BigBang that everyone has seen till now is nothing but an introduction. After releasing their second single album titled “BIGBANG IS V.I.P”, they will officially start their activities.

Their perfect stage appearance is shown through their dancing, singing and rapping. Through their first single, we were able to see their music producing, fashion style and three-part music video that showed each member’s acting skills and talents. We will be able to see all five member’s amazing stage performances through their second single album. The first track titled “La-la-la’ is a song that was produced by Perry and G-dragon. This track has a eurhythmic tempo/rhythm with a modernized melody. All the members contributed in writing the lyric to this song showing their confidence and passion for music. In their real documentary, “la~la~la~everybody get’em hi, melt inside our music and we won’t stop movin movin” was written for their title song. They sang ‘La-la-la’ during YG’s 10th anniversary concert showing off their intense choreography and steady live performance. Everyone is looking forward to their future broadcasting/performances. Their 3rd track titled “V.I.P” shows off all the members rap skills. The song ‘V.I.P’ was heard in the last ten seconds of their ‘We belong together’ music video from their first single. This track was produced by Kim Do-Hyun and G-dragon as well as all the BigBang members. Their 2nd track titled ‘My girl’ shows off the capacity of [vocalist] Tae-Yang’s voice and G-dragon wrote the lyrics to this song. It is a slow R&B track.
