Big changes this week after three songs had dominated this chart for almost two months. Lee Seung Ki's remake version of "제발" (Please) made a big leap from No. 13 to No. 1 this week. It's the biggest jump to No. 1 ever on this chart. The song scored 951 points this week, also one of the highest scores for No. 1 songs this year. Lee came close to hitting No. 1 earlier this year with the song " 하기힘든말" (Words hard to tell). This is his first No. 1 song on our top 20 chart. Congratulations to him!

No. 2 and No. 3 songs are both from new singers of this year. Jang Ri In's "Timeless" jumped four more spots to No. 2. There was some controversy regarding the popularity of this song when it won the SBS Inky Gayo Mutizen award two weeks ago. Since our ranking summarized a lot of different charts in Korea, it proves that this song is indeed popular.

At No. 3, just eight points behind Jang Ri In, is the collaboration between Brown Eyed Girls & See Ya. Their song "The Day" jumped six spots to No. 3 this week, its second week on the chart. See Ya's "미친 사랑의 노래" (Crazy Love Song) fell out of the top 20 this week, but they are represented by this song even though only one member (Kim Yeon Ji) is involved. Since their debut in March, we've seen them on the chart every week for the past six months with five different songs.

We also have a lot of new songs this week: five brand new ones and a re-entry (Big Bang's "눈물뿐인 바보" at No. 17). As a lot of major albums were released in mid-September, the title songs of these albums are starting to enter the chart now. Leading the way, just shy of the top 10 at No. 11, is Koyote's "I Love Rock & Roll". This is already their ninth album, and they are still going very strong. The song is slightly different from their usual dance beat songs. The melody is more like 80s music. Joo Young Hoon, who has written many hits for Koyote in the past, is once again the composer of this song, along with Shin Ji's lyrics, making this another hit that Koyote fans shouldn't miss.

The next two new songs are both from members of very successful groups. G.O.D.'s Son Ho Young debuted at No. 14 with his first solo effort "운다" (Crying). This song reminds us very much of G.O.D.'s ballads. At No. 16, former Baby Vox member Kan Mi Youn comes in with "옛날여자" (Woman In The Past). Unlike Son Ho Young, Kan Mi Youn's song is totally different from her Baby Vox days. This is a nice ballad which really proves her vocal skills, which a lot of people think is the best of all Baby Vox members.

Debuting at No. 18 is a very underrated R&B artist Il Rak (real name: Yoon Dae Geun). He debuted two years ago with a song "준비할께" (I'll be Ready), which received very good reviews but failed to become a hit. His current hit "애수" (Sadness) is the title song from his second album. The song has been lurking below the top 20 for a few weeks already. It is good to see him finally hitting the top 20 this week.

Another underrated artist, Park Ki Young, comes in at No. 19 with "그대때문에" (Because of You). She goes back to more pop-oriented music for her 6th album, after having many rock tracks on her previous (fifth) album. This sad ballad reminds us of "산책" (Taking A Walk) from her fourth album. Park Ki young wrote both the song and the lyrics.

ARTIST OF THE WEEK - Paran



Our featured artist this week is the five-member boy band Paran. The members are all teenagers, aged 15-23. They debuted last year, but were overshadowed by fellow boy band Super Junior, which debuted around the same time. Their first song is "첫사랑" (First Love), a cheesy pop song. Early in 2006, they followed that up with a very sweet ballad "습관처럼" (Habit). Both songs are going to melt the heart of young girls. Recently, Paran came back with their second album with a more mature image. The title song "다섯걸음" (Five Steps) has a strong dance beat which is a new style that we did not see them perform in their 1st album. The song hit our top 10, and became the group's biggest hit so far. Paran may have an advantage over other groups when they are marketed overseas as all five members can speak fluent English. BIOGRAPHY

Five young men teamed up in a rebel of music adorned in the blue color. Paran is a pop idol band made up of five young men whose ages range from 15 to 23. The five members of the band had been living together for 2 years while being trained in singing and dancing. Being fluent in English and Japanese, the band has targeted for overseas markets from debut. Also, all the members have been trained in all areas of musical production from chorus, dubbing to sub-producing. Their first hit song is “First Love.” The lyrics of the song were written by Won Tae-yeon, a poet. The song is like the confession of love among young teens. The song is well-known for its sophisticated and classy feel in which the voices and talents of all five members of the band are well displayed.

Recently, Paran came back with their seconnd album, with the title song ‘Five Steps’. The best gift they got was having the opportunity to work with Usher’s music team ‘Gary Haas’. We are looking forward to seeing them as a global group that will be well known all over the world. Danny Ahn and Kim Tae-Woo from G.O.D., Hwang Sung-Jae, Shin Min-Ohk, P.J. and so forth have participated in this album. Paran is going show fans a more precocious music and a new image that will show a different color of them.

Lee Jung Hyun debuted at the tender age of 16 in Jang Sun Woo's 1996 masterpiece A Petal, and her energy exploded on the stage soon after. She is one of the few Korean artistes firmly established in the dance music genre. Mixing the talent of producers Yoon Il Sang and Choi Joon Young with Lee's incredible energy, this new album moves away from the Latin vibes of her fifth album, Passion, and offers an eclectic mix of musical styles. The principle track I Love You Cheol Soo is filled with analogue funky sounds like Half from her third album. The rest of Fantastic Girl is a blend of different genres and influences, from traditional Korean instruments like the gayageum (zither) to indo-pop and techno. Autumn is the time for ballads and the season opens promisingly with the long-awaited return of Ballad King Sung Si Kyung. After adding acting and DJing to his resume, Sung finally got to work on his fifth album, The Ballads. This time he personally produced the entire album, supervising not only the composition process, but also the production of main track On The Street's music video, which was shot in Shibuya, Tokyo with Japanese actress Okura Erika.
