Well, I'm looking for a good cheap SLR. I think that Point-and-shoot cameras are too weak. (As in, they break too easily >.<)

I'm looking for a cheap SLR that's around $300-500, but capable enough to take good photography.

Any good suggestions? Not like a Canon Rebel XT ... I'm not good enough or have enough money for that ...

Just a cheap, reliable D-SLR. smile.gif

THanks in advance.

The rebel xt is as cheap/reliable as I'll go. Though I like nikon more with slrs. If you're not deeply into photography I don't really suggest investing in a dslr. You'll be spending lots of money on glass and acessories. And at that price range I'm pretty sure P&S cameras are just as good.
I am the minority here.

if you're lucky, you can find some used rebel XT's on sale online for your price range. or perhaps the nikon d50. however, getting the body alone will eat up most, if not all, of your budget. if you're willing to invest a lot more money in the future, i guess a used XT/d50 and the kit lens could make a good start. you'll learn more with all the limitations that you have with the starter set. plus, you can get yourself a decent 50mm prime for under $100 in the near future.

but like tepper said, if you're not gonna go all in, i dont think it's worth getting a dslr. it's expensive, and you want to make the most of it. i've been playing around with my friend's xt recently, and i'm still debating which camera i should get. however, i know for sure i'll be spending over $1000 in my next purchase for a body+2 lenses.

plus, there are other high end non-dslr's that can suffice for most of the time. you can try looking into the canon s3, or the sony h2/h5, for example. and those should cover your price range as well.

but if you're intent on getting that dslr...i suggest you up your budget first.

Hmm ... i see ...

How about like the High-End Digital Cameras.

like the Canon S3 IS (http://www.walmart.c...uct_id=4756536)

or higher priced PowerShot G7

Not really EOS (SLR), but still have interchangable lenses I believe and good functions.

might wanna wait a bit longer for the g7 reviews. it's still fairly new, and also above your budget. (it's ~$600).

the s3 IS is a very nice camera. check out this site for sample photos: http://www.pbase.com/cameras/canon/powershot_s3_is

it also costs within your range at ~$360

the canon rebel XT and nikon d50 are good entry lvl dslrs. canons usually run for a ltitle more nikons though. and like tepper and watcher said if you're not into i dont recommend a dslr. its an expensive hobby as you'll find out and it seems that you dont have very much funds to work with. if the price of the body doesnt kill the glass probably will.
