Cause not everyone is applying to a UC... laugh.gif

Which SUNYs are you guys applying to, and under what major?
Has anyone ever visited the Geneseo campus? I hear its a farm..

Stony: Its relatively new so the campus is actually quite nice. Overall I know Stony doesn't have much school pride though which can be a bit unsettling. The comp sci program is very challenging and I hear that they weed out 50% of the students because its so tough.

Bing: is in Binghamton.. I mean, is there anything to do there? When I visited I passed by a plethora of mountains and saw random trailers by the road. I know the SOM (school of management) is very popular - can anyone comment on the business major here?

I was thinking the same thing about all the UC talk. I'm like "...none of this really applys to me"

I want to go to Geneseo. It is in the middle of nowehere surrounded by cow farms. There's a little town though. It's almost exactly like where I live now except the land is a little flatter.

Have you ever visited Geneseo? Could you give a description of the area, or do you have any pictures?
I'm from NYC so I dont really know how a farm is like? I mean I've passed by farms and desolate areas but.. just how bad is it? sweatingbullets.gif

I'm from Binghamton, well from my point of view yea its very boring and everything, but if youve seen the standards n stuff, Binghamton has one of the highest SATs n GPA wise.. we're actually not really that bad, i've lived in bingo for like all my 16 years n i havent seen a trailer park b4 lol.. i think u saw them in jc or endwell or something lol.. well i kno a lotta ppl from NYC goes to binghamton n theres lots of asian there too (i kno b/c my mom has an asian store n they come n shop there) but yea i guess it depends on what your majorin in n stuff, but binghamton is a very good school, to me its the best SUNY out there, but i myself am not going b/c its too close to my home n i wanna explore lol so i'm not going..

Geneseo, is such a small school i mean i think theres like what 5000 undergraduate? lol im lookin for a bigger school so i'm not goin to that. I've been lookin at Buffalo n Albany n recently Stony.. i dont want to sound cocky, but i kno i'd make albany b/c my bro made it n his GPA was bad so yea lol but i dunno i kinda want to go to buffalo b/c my friend said shes gonna go if i go i guess its just a peer pressure thing, but i guess buffalos good lol i dunno..

its pretty sad considering i'm a senior and i still dont kno what i'm gonna major in n stuff like that wacko.gif i've gave it a lot of thought but still cant figer it out unsure.gif

A description? laugh.gif I'm not so sure how to describe nothing. I did visit Geneseo, and I liked it. A farm is basically lots of large empty (except for whatever vegetation or animals, around Geneseo it's corn and cows) fields. The town was small and cute. There was a police station, a fire station, 2 pizza places, and ice cream parlor, 2-3 little clothes shops and such, a couple bars, and a little travel agency. There had to have been a grocery store around too, but I guess I didn't come across it.

It's cute, but if you're used to the city...it may be a culture shock. There's really not much to do in area's like this. It's also very homogenous (aka. White) and small. For me it'd be just like high school tongue.gif

WOW thats it?!! Thats all that surrounds Geneseo? Wait, so where do people go shopping? like, theres no mall? Shopping mall? CVS? Rite Aid? A place to buy tofu, if I wanted? I mean dining options at Geneseo better be freaking good if thats all they have nearby..

Ohh.. It sounds OK in Bing. I havent been to a Dennys (or seen one anyway) ever in my life. But yay, subway! Ok, I know I won't starve then. What is JC? What does it stand for? Is it possible to get around Bingo without a car? I always take public transportation so I never bothered to try and get a permit or license.. or to learn how to drive, anyway. Is the public transportation there? And thats cool, Asian Oriental store.. cool beans. I know Binghamton doesnt have a lot a residents, so do most people know where BU is located and know about the school? Thanks for answering my questions.. its really helpful biggrin.gif

I think the essay question part is the supplement, and they will tell you to fill out the supplement after you submit (aka pay) for your application(s). Im applying to SUNYs too..

Wow you really need to ask for recs, especially if you want to apply early action. My school's deadline is comign up this week for early so thats why I have to get it done.

There's no mall, there has to be a drugstore like CVS and such nearby though. I don't think you could get good tofu in Geneseo itself. Whatever's at the supermarket probably. If you want to go shopping you'll probably end up going to Rochester (probably about 30ish minutes away) and maybe Buffalo (probably a couple hours away) or even Toronto (4 hours away though) if you feel like going to a real city. From what I understand most students eat on campus 95% of the time.

oh really? denny's like friendlys (which is also on that road) n the good thing about dennys is that its pretty much 24/7 n its real close to campus.. like i'd eat there at midnight or w/e n i'd see students eatin there n studyin n stuff.. so yea thats a cool place i guess.. JC's Johnson City, its the town next to bing... lol yea i forgot that the fact u never needa drive in nyc.. well theres big blue buses that goes around.. i kno theres bu buses that gues to the mall so u dont have to worry about that.. um i dont think i kno any1 that doesnt kno about BU, like every 1 knos it i think..

well i dont think i'm doing early action.. or atleast not right now i'm planning to take the sats again in nov to raise my score first, then id prolly send in appilcations

Depends on your definition of hard.
Stony Brook is selective, but not by much at all. I think a 80 average and 1600 SAT score should pretty much do it.

Bing on the other hand is pretty selective. Almost every single student applies from my school so they take us in masses (like 200+) but I know that even some smart seniors last year got deferred to Spring admission because so many people had applied and enrolled..

New York State schools have a standard 100% scale.
Schools calculate the GPA differently so you may want to check with your school to see how their GPA conversion works.
