What do you do when your fairy tale marriage suddenly comes crashing down? After 27 years of marriage, Ignacio San Millan – a successful lawyer, decides to leave his wife Maria Ines and their children for Daniella – a younger woman. Maria Ines’ daughters blame her for what happened to their family. Lonely and frustrated, Maria Ines is clueless on how to start picking up the pieces and move on with her life. Surely she can’t compete with a woman who is 30 years younger than her, add to that the growing hostility that she’s experiencing from her demanding daughters.
But it was during her lowest point when she met a young journalist named Alejandro Salas. In spite of being 16 years her junior, Alejandro is more than willing to give Maria Ines the love and respect that she rightfully deserves.

(English: The Gaze of a Woman) is a Mexican telenovela, which was produced by and broadcasted on TV Azteca in 1997. It is considered one of the best produced in the history of the television industry in Mexico. It came after a year after TV Azteca's first telenovela Nada personal and was the first telenovela in that TV station for its five stars, who had been working with Televisa prior to this production. In 2003 the sequel for this telenovela Mirada de mujer: El regreso was produced.
It is said to be the remake of the Colombian weekly drama "Señora Isabel" (1993), written by Mónica Agudelo.
This soap opera was also shown on a television channel in the Philippines via ABS-CBN, dubbed in Filipino under the same title. On the other hand, also in India—Sahara TV, dubbed in Hindi, under the title of Maria.
