Hey, I'm not a big car guy but i like the body on the impreza 2.5 rs... not the 2002 - up ones but below. i think someone has the rs in this forum. but anyways. i can't really find one with decent miles so i was going to switch engines and try to replace all the parts on the vehicle? how much do you think that would cost me? better to just buy a new car? what kind of engine should i get if i did do an engine swap? thanks

most rs owners will swap to a wrx engine (ej20). As for cost, it will be alot. Plan on spending at least $5k just for parts. Honestly, I don't know, I'm just throwing out a number. Check out nasioc.com forums for more info.

I have a 99 2.5rs. If you live in the socal area, theres a shop that will do the EJ20 WRX motor swap with everything, install, smog legal for 5g's. 7g's for the STI swap. Note that this doesn't include a tranny and thats only in the socal area.

I know a few guys with swaps...they paid about 6g's for a wrx swap. Its not something you can do yourself, the wiring is pretty intense. You can probably pick up a used STI RA motor from japan for about 2g's that comes with 320hp stock but it won't be smog legal and still cost about 2-3g's for the install.

If you're not a car guy, its not worth it. I bought my 99 2.5rs with 157k miles and I've had it for 8 months, No problems yet. I've put about 5k miles on it with no problems at all, it burns some oil but runs well.

These cars are dead reliable. If you're not into cars, its not worth it. It's a big undertaking

Highly depends on a lot of factors....most people mate their motors upto their RS trannies but if you want to go 6 speed sti or RA, thats probably the better idea...but that alone can be around 3g's.
