are there some tips for doing well in writing courses in college? i thought i was decent at it until i got my first essay back with a C. i'm not really used to writing these personal narratives, advertisement, etc. essays that i never had to write in high school. in high school it was more of literature and analysis. i really want to get a good grade in this course so if anyone has advices please share! thanks:)

see if your school has a centre for academic writing. They sometimes hold workshops, but usually, you just bring your essay/writing to them and they look it over with you. Very helpful.

And to get better at writing, just simply write more. I usually need some time to see what the professor or TA wants in their essays & their marking style. Every prof is different. You'll probably do better on your next one.

You could make an appointment to meet with your TA or professor to discuss your paper. One of my past professors used to make appointments with us and she would read over our papers and give us useful feedback. I think most professors are willing to lend you a hand =)

i can relate with you.. this is my 2nd time taking this college writing class.. i also got a lot of C's on my paper.. u just have to spend more time on it and try to get good peer editors to help edit your paper.. it helps a lot. hope that helped.

thx for the help guys. i think the problem might be that i haven't written the type of essays demanded by this course in years. in high school we were so busy reading books, writing analysis papers, and preparing for AP test, but in these lower division college writing courses they want personal narratives, ad analysis, persuasive essays, etc. hopefully i can "re-adjust" to this type of writing and do better.
