i'm using a thermalright ultra 120 with a silenx 120mm 90CFM fan on my 4400+:

the cooling difference is dramatic - i still sometimes open up the system monitor just to look at the low temps. i did my own tests on the day i installed it and there was a difference of 12dC between stock and ultra 120 with fan...

my opinion is that you don't need a powerful fan to get good performance out of it, you just need something that moves the air around a tiny bit

i've yet to find out about OCing improvements.

ohmy.gif godly!!!

*adds that to the christmas wishlist*

I have a Zalman... its not as quiet as I wish it would be. But I am used to almost passive cooling in contrast to a fan like that so im very picky. It idles at about 93 F for me so im happy but I think I would go for something bigger like boka in the future.

I have a zalman on my video card too... I like that very much... I hate the stock video card fan, although its something you should consider after you get your card. My brother's 7600gt is very quiet in comparision to my x800's cooler (slot blower vs fan)

>_< so did you blow up your computer?
=(

o_o" well... usually you would remove and replace the whole heatsink and fan unit from the video card.

I just use that zalman thing it looks like a mini version of their cpu cooler that looks like a flower.

Most products like zalman will come with thermal paste. Most will buy a tube of artic silver and use that instead though.

If you have doubts like that then I would recomend against it...

Video card fans are typically held down by 2 pins, just flatten them a bit and push them back through the board... Others like my ATI have the heatsink screwed on... so you will have to do some searching.

Artic silver and any thermal paste... all you will need is a small blob. I believe they say about the size of a grain of rice.
