I want to major in illustrations/fine arts.
..but I'm not sure what art school I should apply to?
I'm looking around southern california..

BTW, do they look into gpa and sats?
I have horrible GPA and okay SATs. sad.gif
Will my art make up for it?

..and what kind of portfolio should I send in?
I'm clueless on that part. o.O
Do I take pictures of my paintings?
Make a CD consisting of my CG illustrations?
Bring in my sketch books?
ETC?
Do I have to go over there to show them my portfolio?
Or do I just send in my work... somehow?
AH~
I really need help, any help is greatly appreciated!

Alot of the good schools are on east coast... and i live on the east so idk much about cali, so sry. (Schools im applying to are RISD, MICA, Pratt, SAIC, CCS)

anyway, check the websites and they'll give you the portfolio info. Usually people take slides of them and then send it in but nowadays people i guess are taking advatange of technology and using DVDs and stuff. personally, its too risky for me b/c who k nows, it may not work and that will jeopardize your chances so yea.

most schools do care about grades and basically if they're not satisfied with GPA, they'll move onto SAT scores, vice versa. However, portfolio is THE #1 thing they look at so if you have a good portfolio i wouldnt be TOO worried..unless your GPA is like a .405 or somehting rofl

Art Center of Pasadena. They have a super good graphic design and illustration program. I know someone who's in the illustration program right now and he said it was really good but the professors are tough... so he's improving a lot. and also, the art center helps students get connections for jobs and careers later on in life.

And the art center does look at your stats, but if you have a killer portfolio, then they won't mind poor stats as much. as for the content, i have no idea. you'd probably want to send in your fine arts and illustration stuff. oh and show that you have mastered the basic techniques and that you are creative/have creative pieces. creativity matters a lot for art center. and i do know that you can either send in a CD of your work or slides. slides are probably better, though, because they can see an overview of your work rather than with CDs where they see pictures one at a time and the order that you place your work in really matters then. haha does that even make sense?

good luck!! smile.gif

oh! and i almsost forgot! UCLA has a really good art program, too. look into their art school.

haha oh and one more thing. if you want to major in fine arts, a really good but competitive school is cooper union. their fine art program is amazing, but it's really hard to get in. but another bad thing for you, i guess, is that it's not in southern california; it's in ny.
