I'm trying to setup one of the folders on my computer for file share so my friends can just browse through the files and download them. I'm not sure if this is the same thing but I read the instructions and set it up. My "shared documents" folder is now setup for public access but how would others be able to access it? Is there like a link I give them?
Guide I was following:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304040
If not this method, is there another method I can use to be able to share a folder on my computer.
There're free sites to upload files but I want to be able to just dump all my files in a folder and have my friends be able to browse through it and get what they want. Hope the post makes sense.

To be able to share it, you'd have to be all hooked up onto the same network, through a router or hub.

Any method I could use to file share with someone that is not in my area?

The easiest would probably be to just setup a sharing folder for your MSN or AIM. If you wanted to do ti the right way, or perhaps more efficient depending on the number of files... you can setup a FTP server.. I have a free easy to use one but I can't seem to find my thumbdrive atm. But it will require you to forward a port on your router (usually 21)
You sure it wont be easier for you to burn it onto a DVDr?

I have MSN 7.0 the only "file-sharing" I can do is by manually sending files within the chatbox.
Yeah no dvdr because it's not for a one time thing.
I want it so that they can access the shared folder anytime and get the music they want.
How does the FTP work? Both must have the program?

I personally use Hamachi for gaming like starcraft in LAN mode, very low ping and very close to LAN latency
But yeah Hamachi is a great program and I believe this will help ya
