Yes that was fun to see, all the experts said the Niners had no chance. Niners made the Bronco fans sad.gif

Seriously, I hate to hear about tragic news like this. RIP Darrent Williams

Williams killed when limo sprayed with bullets
Associated Press

DENVER -- Denver Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting early Monday, his limousine sprayed with bullets in downtown Denver.

Team spokesman Jim Saccomano said police called him about 3 a.m. from the scene and told him three people had been shot, and the 24-year-old Williams had been killed. The killing came hours after the Broncos were eliminated from the playoff race.

A little after 2 a.m., a white Hummer limousine was fired on from a vehicle that pulled up along its side, police spokesman Sonny Jackson said. As many as a dozen bullet holes were visible on the driver's side of the vehicle.

Three people in the limo were hit and were taken to hospitals, where one man was pronounced dead, Jackson said. The other man and woman who were shot were not identified.

Jackson said police were searching for suspects and interviewing witnesses.

"We have no motive yet," Jackson said. "We're hoping to talk with witnesses to find out where they were coming from, and that might give us some clues."

Saccomano said he spoke with coach Mike Shanahan and others in the organization. Hours earlier, the Broncos lost to San Francisco 26-23 in overtime.

"Complete shock. We're speechless. It takes words away. A terrible tragedy," Saccomano said.

Pro Bowl player Champ Bailey was among the players and team staff members who gathered at Denver Health Medical Center, where Williams' body was taken.

"He had a big heart and a lot of courage," said Cedric Smith, assistant strength and conditioning coach. "It's a tragedy, a complete tragedy. It's sickening."

Williams teamed with Bailey to give Denver one of the top cornerback tandems in the NFL. Williams finished the season with 88 tackles, 78 of them solo, and four interceptions.

Williams had a tough youth but straightened out in college, said his high-school football coach, Anthony Criss.

"When he was younger, he always gravitated to the wrong crowd," said Criss, who coached Williams for three seasons at O.D. Wyatt High in Fort Worth and continued to speak regularly with Williams. "I remember he went to church and the minister was talking to him about needing to pray and stop hanging around with the wrong people, and he started straightening up and doing the right thing."

Williams matured at Oklahoma State, turning his eye toward a professional football career, Criss said. "I visited him his junior year, and he was grown," Criss said. "Everything was, 'Yes, sir. No, sir."

Players and coaches are off Monday. They were scheduled to meet Tuesday before heading home for the offseason.

On Sunday against the 49ers, Williams had three tackles and returned two punts for 50 yards before leaving the game with a shoulder injury late in the second half. After the game he said he was planning to wait a few weeks before determining if he needed an operation.

In December, Williams spoke of his desire to return to his hometown of Fort Worth, Texas, this offseason to talk to kids about staying out of gangs.

Williams, a second-round draft pick out of Oklahoma State in 2005, made an immediate impact on the Broncos. He started nine times in his rookie season following a stellar college career.

The white stretch Hummer limousine sat in a snowbank beside Speer Boulevard, a main street through downtown Denver. On the driver's side, at least three bullet holes were visible near the front, and four more near the back. One window was blown out and four others had bullet holes.

Police and evidence technicians worked amid snow and ice from recent storms, using small tent-like yellow plastic markers to indicate possible pieces of evidence.

QUOTE
The NFL at its core is a big fraternity and today we lost one of our own. I didn't know Darren Williams that well. We'd only met once or twice, the first time coming after he was drafted by the Broncos in the second round of the 2005 draft. He was excited to start his new journey and was confident that he could prove he belonged in this league. He did prove he belonged on the big stage. In the coming days we're going to hear a lot of stuff about how athletes were out of control in 2006, but we can't forget that this was a 24-year old kid who lost his life. This is bigger than a football player or a football team; this is about a kid whose life ended prematurely. This is about a kid who was realizing his dreams and it just smacks of senselessness to me. There's no reason we should be writing eulogies for 24-year old kids & absolutely none.

My heart goes out to his family and friends who are suffering from this untimely loss.

yeah i watched that on espn this morning...
nightmare past 24 hours for the broncos huh..he was an up and coming player too..probably get a lot of action when playing on the other side of champ bailey..and did it pretty well..
RIP. death 2 hours into the new year..its tragic.
--------------------------------------------------------
on a happy note:
mora was just fired.
denny green was just fired.
i bet denny green or singletary will end up being one of the falcon's coaches for minority interview requirements..
and mckay/blank opted to use the 48 hour rule, meaning if they didn't find a good enough option in 2 days, they would keep mora...but i guess they did..got fired the day after the game..

serves the whole dam coaching staff right if the starters on the team can't even take out the third stringers on the eagles dry.gif
but feely isn't a bad qb..just happens to be the third stringer on the eagles..i really think he'd be a good backup or even a servicable starter..
Too lazy to make another sig. Ill get to it..maybe.

I really hate it when someone says that one team is more deserving of a Super Bowl win or berth than another team. All 32 teams play their butts off, and every single team is as deserving as the next.

I wouldn't even agree if you said that New Orleans fans deserve a Super Bowl berth of the Saints. Yes, Katrina was devastating, but saying that they deserve a Super Bowl berth is pretty much pity.

To an extent, I agree, but I've followed the NFL and regardless of the controversy that surrounded each team, they still stuck together as a unit and never threw any of their teammates under the bus when something went wrong. They're not perfect players and persons, but they exemplify teamwork and professionalism that's been missing for a while in the league which makes them deserving. That's not to say we should give them the Super Bowl, thus that's where hard work comes in and the position the teams earned for themselves today. Don't act like I didn't acknowledge that those teams earned their positions today.
And when I said the Saints were deserving, I wasn't even thinking of Katrina.

EDIT: what about teams with poorer records in the NFC getting into the playoffs? You don't think the 9-7 Broncos deserve a playoff berth more than the Cowboys/Giants? What about Tennessee, Cincy, Jacksonville who are all better 8-8 teams than the Giants?

Man I was so bummed out that my Broncos choked to the sorry 49ers...and to hear the news this morning about D. Williams...mini cooper is so messed up. R.I.P. D. Williams Broncos need to fire their defensive coordinator. Dumbass didn't blitz on that 3rd down in OT when they know their front 4 sucks. Guess I'll root for the Saints/Chargers now.

Vince Young wins the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Out of 50 votes from a nationwide panel of sports writers and broadcasters:
Vince Young - 23
Marques Colston - 9
Maurice Jones-Drew - 9
Marcus McNeill - 6
Reggie Bush - 3

(I'd mentioned Charger rookie tackle Marcus McNeill as an honorable mention in an earlier reply, but never did I expect him to get any votes, much less more votes than Reggie Bush!)

LT should've won AP Male athlete of the year. Why the hell do they keep giving it to a golfer who's won it so many times already? Those idiot voters need to realize what LT is doing is simply amazing. I mean, what does the best RB of all time(eventually) have to do to win that damn award??!!?

dude shut up
you continuously show your ignorance
women athletes are still athletes, and sports such as figure skating require talent and work
and no, LT is part of a team and thus, he's had assistance in bieng so great..offensive line, wrs, qb balancing offense out..not only does LT take pressure off rivers, rivers takes pressure off of LT
and i think that tiger woods is deserving of it becaues after his tragic death of his father, he rebounded back after not making the cut in one of his majors to win like 5 straight. honestly, no one can match him at this point, so he is fully deserving of this award. and no matter what you say, woods had to work hard on his own individual skills, developing them and such..he doesn't have a team to help him when he's down and no one to boost his stats up. leave LT without an o-line and an offense, and he's nothing.

Did I miss something? Did he mention anything about women athletes? Did he mention anything about how he thinks that golf is easier? Did I miss something?

Tomlinson's performance this past year was quite possibly the greatest performance the NFL has seen by a running back in one season. Yes, he had quite the talent surrounding him with McNeil, Gates, that fullback that everyone loves so much (what is his name?), and a young quarterback in Rivers. However, they didn't score 31 touchdowns. Tomlinson did.

And you're totally right. The San Diego Chargers had a lot to do with Tomlinson's success, but to say that Tomlinson's success is less impressive because he actually had to play in a team? I disagree. I don't care who you play with. The success of your performance relies heavily upon yourself. In the case of Tomlinson, his performance was heavily due to his own attributes, and I don't think it is fair nor possible to take that away from him because of the performances of his teammates.

Let's get one thing straight. The AP Male Athlete of the Year award should be awarded to the male athlete who had the greatest performance over the past year. Forget that Tiger Woods has won the award before. Forget that Tomlinson played in a team sport. Forget that Tiger's father passed away. The question really should be, "Who had the most impressive year?" As impressive as 31 touchdowns is, Tiger Woods won two majors and 5 straight tournaments this past year.

I'm not particularly fond of Tiger Woods because I think he is over-exposed, but the guy is by far the best golfer in history. This past year was another one of those highlight years of his.

ok ok yall r both right. seems to be getting out of hand a little but yea. LT had a GREAT YEAR this year but think if some one like barry sanders played his whole career and didnt retire early he could of probably been crazy to and LT probably would just be in sanders shadow like how scottie pippen wuz under jordans shadow. dont get me wrong LT is one hell of a running back and tiger is one hell of a golfer but to say there best in history is kinda over-rating them any can happen.

p.s- until LT gets a superbowl ring he will probably be like a dan marino breaking alot of records but can never win the big one.

actually he has.
hes stated in a different thread that he doesn't see sports such as figure skating an actual sport becaues it doesn't take physical pounding or physical skills..not quoted, but thats the gist of it. he's also said he doesn't consider golfers athletes and any women athletes for whatever reasons he holds..

besides i think that golf is somewhat of a harder sport because golfers have so much more competition..any no namer can suddenly come up and take you out of a tournament..but in football you have gameplanning, depth charts, and i know that fball teams get the week to prepare becaues it is impossible to just play games on the fly..but golf does require that. the smallest mistake on a swing can totally screw you up and depending on how your individual performance is, it will put you in different scenarios and youre forced ot think about which clubs, which directions, apporximate force, wind, and all of these factors right on the spot. i mean i can have my own argument for golf, woods, figure skating, and women athletes, but either way, LT is a great runningback, but i think anyone can be the greatest of all time and itll be hard to label him that..especially when theres so much time left in the future..but i do think he should get the MVP for balancing his team and being so much part of their success this year, and brees should get comeback player of the year..or possibly pennington because pennington to me has a bigger impact with his story

brees:
totally destroye darm because he was left in too long
san diego gave up on him
saints took a chance, totally turned their oganization around and broke records with his arm that everyone was doubting..(total comeback..)

pennington:
weak arm to start out with
had surgeries on it before
ruined it again
camme back and uspposedly threw it with more zip than ever (according to mccaereins [sp?])
eeryone thought jets would be horrible after last season (honestly, i think replacing some old/key parts was more like fine tuning the organization..they had a good team..just playing with a third stringer and a 40 year old can't be very good..so i think their "demise" was a bit overrated)

who do you take for comeback player of the year?

coach: sean payton
mvp: LT
comeback: brees or pennington
DPY: jason taylor
OPY: undecided
DRY: undecided..haven't really payed attention on defense
ORY: Already given to Vince Young..although I do see an argument for leadin ghis team to like an 8-3 record after 0-5..if you look at his stats, its not much...56 or 64 qb rating..around there..and people saying he's already better than vick? vick haters wish..vick may not be a pocket qb but sitll has better stats than young at this stage..even though he is a rookie and will probably get a lot better..either way, maurice-drew jones and colston had a way better year. (what rookie wr, let alone a 7th rounder from hofstra...get 1000 yds receiving? since when does a rookie rb get 13 tds? even some starters don't get that many tds..and the 600 or whatever rushing yards is acceptable..backup to fred taylor, even though he is injury prone..)

and krn_track_star..it feels like its been a while since you posted haha
