Yes, both the Chiefs and the Chargers suffered some devastating losses.
It's also further complicated by the fact that the Steelers also won to create a 3 way tie between teams with 8-5 records. But from a more optimistic perspective, the Jaguars also dropped one to Indy so at 9-4, they are also only a precarious one game ahead of these three other teams with still three games to play.
In settling intra-divisional ties first, the Chargers hold the tiebreaker over the Chiefs by virtue of their earlier win against them. This eliminates the Chiefs. But, when the inter-divisional tiebreakers are applied, the Steelers get the nod over the Chargers because of their win against them on that one MNF game. So as it stands, the Steelers currently hold the last playoff spot. The Chargers and Chiefs are on the outside looking in, but the opportunity is still there.
Going into next weekend's games, all 3 teams have some tough games to play. The Steelers go on the road and march into Minnesota where the Vikings are on an emotional roll right now. The Chiefs also go on the road to New York to play against the Giants, which also should be a tough game. But the toughest battle will probably be the Chargers having to go into Indianapolis to battle the undefeated Colts. Judging from their past performance against Miami, I'm starting to have even more doubts about this game than before. Perhaps if Dungy decides to play Manning, Harrison, James, et al for half or a quarter - then maybe the Chargers will have a realistic chance to steal one away. But by far, you've got to favor the Colts.
So how was the tension at Hooters yesterday?
OMG the first 3 quarters of the game was so boring.
Yes, before I would have killed to see the Chargers play the Colts legitimately, but now not anymore. It is not that I lost faith in the Chargers (it was their own heads up their own butts yesterday that caused the loss), but I want them to make it into the playoffs nice and easy first and then prove themselves. Hopefully Dungey will only play his starters for a time period, though normally I would not encourage this, but hopefully the Chargers' defense give Manning a scare and Dungey will bench him and the others. Jags have easy games left, I would expect them to win them all. Steelers too, but there's that one away at Minnesota where those guys are playing for respect so I'll have my fingers crossed for that. Holy crap, I hate you Chargers!
Oh and I hope Reggie Bush does not go to the Texans.

you honestly think that putting in rex at this point makes them such a better offensive team all of a sudden? Every GOOD team has at least 2 good deep threats. Ward and Randel El, Harrison and Wayne, TJ and Johnson, Burress and Toomer. Who do we have? Moose and Gage...justin gage. You think that kind of receiver core will all of a sudden make Rex the savior of the Bears offense? If the Bears all of a sudden start putting up 21, 28, 35 points in a game if Rex steps in, i'll be the first to admit that i was wrong. But i'm pretty confident that won't happen.
Perhaps I overstated Orton's wretchedness a tad. Regardless, he's horrid and the Bears will not win the NFC with him starting. They have a much better chance with Grossman.
Unfortunately, the Bears' lone TD drive may have earned Orton a start next week, which means Orton earned the Bears another loss by completing those two consecutive passes.

Good game from the Eagles (23-26 OT Loss) and perhaps the most solid game in weeks, but they are now eliminated from playoff contention. Hard to suck in the pride as a philly fan, especially because I remember cheering like crazy last year during super bowl. I hope that the core players come back from injuries next year and compete again for the title.
Fantasy-wise, I'm very happy that I started Bobby Engram off free agency this week. 2 TD catches. w00t.
Also, I think Seattle is overrated. I don't know how much credit I can give to their defense, but their sole reason for success on offense is because of Shaun Alexander. I personally think that Matt Hasselbeck isn't a great QB and freezes at clutch moments and drives. Their WRs are admirable (Engram, Jurevicious, Jackson), but there are certainly not the top names in football. If Alexander wasn't there to support his team, then I'm sure he would have done a lot worse.

Philadelphia Eagles last month, the All-Pro wide receiver known for his flamboyant end zone theatrics hosted a birthday party Monday night at rapper Jay-Z's 40-40 club. T.O. turned 32 on Dec. 7.
The bash drew several NFL stars, some of Owens' former teammates on the Eagles and a few celebrities.
Among the celebrities on the guest list were Jamie Foxx, Will Smith, Paris Hilton, Jessica Simpson and the Rev. Jesse Jackson.
Former Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin, former Bears coach Mike Ditka, Redskins running back Clinton Portis and Redskins wide receiver Santana Moss also were invited. Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis was a surprise name on the list — he and Owens feuded last year when Owens spurned a trade from San Francisco to Baltimore.
A day earlier, the reigning conference champion Eagles were eliminated from playoff contention with their sixth loss in seven games. Jevon Kearse and Lito Sheppard were among the 11 Eagles who had arrived at the party by 11:15.
"It's a wonderful event and I'm just showing some support," Kearse said. "He's a wonderful teammate."
Receiver Darnerien McCants was the first Eagles player to arrive. He was followed by tight ends L.J. Smith, Stephen Spach and Andy Thorn and injured linebacker Greg Richmond.
No, Donovan McNabb didn't show up in his dancing shoes, even though he also was invited. The injured quarterback and Owens have feuded since the Eagles lost to New England in the Super Bowl last February.
Scantily clad women wearing different colored No. 81 jerseys with question marks representing the team name provided some of the entertainment for the guests. Owens hadn't arrived by 10:30 p.m.
The party invitations arrived last week and were shaped like a penalty flag. They read: "There's a flag on the play? After further review, No. 81 is at it again."
"It's a party. It's a celebration of another year of life," said Kim Etheredge, Owens' publicist.
"I would go to battle with T.O. any day of the week. A lot of people don't understand him," said former Eagles receiver Freddie Mitchell, one of early arrivals.
Owens still is officially a member of the Eagles, but he was banned from team activities and sent home for good last month.
Owens was suspended Nov. 5 after he again criticized McNabb, called the organization "classless" and fought with former teammate Hugh Douglas. Two days later, the Eagles extended the suspension to four games and told Owens not to return.
On Nov. 23, an arbitrator upheld the decision, ruling that the Eagles were justified in their actions.
The Eagles deactivated Owens twice already as planned and will do so for the final three games. They'll likely trade or release Owens before March, when he's due a $5 million roster bonus.
Owens' suspension without pay cost him $764,706 of his $3.25 million base salary for this season. He is owed $955,882 over the final five games.
The Eagles informed Owens he must repay $1.725 million of the $2.3 million signing bonus he received in March 2004. The NFL Players' Association filed a grievance against the Eagles last Tuesday, claiming the team breached Owens' contract by trying to get back part of the bonus and by leaving him inactive for the rest of the season.
Owens has five years remaining on a seven-year, $48.97 million contract that he signed when he came to Philadelphia last year. His problems started when he demanded a new contract after an outstanding season in which he caught 77 passes for 1,200 yards and 14 touchdowns, helping the Eagles reach the Super Bowl for the first time in 24 years.
Owens was kicked out of training camp for one week after a heated dispute with coach Andy Reid that followed a shouting match with offensive coordinator Brad Childress.
Owens also annoyed the Eagles by violating the dress code on road trips, parking in coaches' spots at the team's practice facility and sleeping through one team meeting, not bringing his playbook to another and refusing to open the playbook at another meeting.
One day after the Eagles banished him, a contrite Owens pleaded for another chance in a public apology outside his home in Moorestown, but the team was unmoved.
Owens was set to earn base salaries of $770,000 in 2006, $5.5 million in 2007, $6.5 million in 2008, $7.5 million in 2009, and $8.5 million in 2010.

Chicago's loss to the Steelers proved to me that they won't go too far come playoff time. Kyle Orton lacks experience as a starter, and with a lackluster offense, their superb defense can only go so far. Remember, defenses don't put scores on the board (well, most of the time), it's the offense. If the Chicago offense repeats what they did against Steelers, they're goners.
I agree with the idea that they're only going to go, perhaps, into the second round of the playoffs this year. The fact is they have one no. 1 option on that team and a whole bunch of third options in that receiving core. Fact is, the Bears will be great against mediocre teams, good against ok teams, and hang on to the skin of their teeth against solid teams. Against good teams (especially offensively, it doesn't take much of a defense to stop kyle orton, or the rest of the Bears offense) the Bears will probably loose. They can't catch up if a good team rattles off more than 2 touchdowns and a field goal.

who the FREAK are the hawks? They're not an NFL team by my recollection? You mean the FALCONS?
what a bum, you think that teams don't want balance? You think that NFL GM's just want one sided teams? It just so happens that it's not SO SIMPLE to build a balanced team. If it were that easy, out of simple choice, then all NFL teams would have a balanced attack on offense and defense.
btw, a good example of a balanced team:
the texans. They're pretty equal on offense and defense. Too bad they're as equally putrid on offense and defense.

ya can't say reggie bush is overrated yet, until he gets to the nfl
as much as i dun like him, coz i dun like usc (i'm rooting for texas
i can admit, imo...he's the most dominating offensive player in college football
you, yourself even said that he's gonna be a high draft pick
cadillac williams wasn't known as a grind it out player
but he's doin' just fine in the nfl...rushing the ball up the middle
who's to say bush can't do the same?
no one can know, until we see him in the nfl

Dude, didn't your Chiefs lose to the BILLS? Yeah, exactly....
And the Dolphins are friggin schizo, but that's not a real excuse. The Bolts should have been more prepared.
Yes, I do think I'm special (and not the eating paste kind of special either).

don't call me a fool, i couldn't care $0.02 about the damn seahawks. It was natural to assume you were confused with the atlanta franchise, whom the Bears will be playing this upcoming weekend. And no, "hawks"<<<<bears. You can have all the O you want, but if that D is stopping the O, who's gonna win? Who leads the league in INTs and Fumbles? Bears D will put the pounding on "Avacor" man hasselbeck, and I guarantee some broken ribs.

defense wins championships....look at the ravens a couple of years ago they had a pretty bad offense...but there defense was awesome and they won it all....u gotta have a good defense to win it all...but i am not sayin the bears r gonna win it all cause there qb is too inexperienced and they need a little more on offense
