i have a question...
does anyone know what NANTABAYO means? cuz i noticed that naruto basically always says it after something he says. and since i'm korean i dont know what hes saying. thanks in advance =)

It's nande bayo! Which means like "WHY?!" nande means 'why' and bayo is something only used by naruto, no Japanese person says bayo. It's supposed to be 'dayo' as in 'nande dayo'. It's like a Korean person who runs around saying blabla바다 instead of blabla니다

It could also be 'nanda bayo!" which means "What?!" but the first one makes more sense

i think hierarchy has to do alot with speaking japanese..it shows respect.. *nods

ahh..yea..I've been chewed out a few times for not speaking 'respectfully enough', usually to middle aged / older people. It would help if your friend told the people that it's wrong, but most Japanese are too shy to do that, so the problem repeats itself..

Right now, I would like to write:
Mr Kojima asked me if I knew Kayoko. I said yes, and then he left! I didn't even get to speak Japanese, but its ok.

Using my textbook and dictionary I came with:
Kojima san wa watshi ga Kayoko o ukagau shiru.... (totally sounds wrong)
Watashi wa hai itta, sosh!te Kojima san deta!
Nihongo wa hanashinakatta, demo daijobou.

Can you help? She said journal/diaries should be in plain form.

To ask if you know someone you usually say blablaを知っていますか?(blabla o sitteimasu ka?) In Japanese 'to know' something is considered an ongoing action, because you don't know it one second then forget it the next, so it always uses 知っています (sitteimasu) unless you say you don't know which is 知らない (shiranai) or 知りません
You don't need things like watashi all the time if it's understood that you're talking about yourself through the context. To ask is 聞く　・　聞きます (kiku / kikimasu). ukagau is the humble version of kiku, you don't usually use it in everyday conversation unless you're talking to someone of much higher social status than you.

This might be a bit complicated to explain, but I'm assuming this Mr. Kojima person is of a higher social status than you. Therefore it's ok if, in quotes, you make him say "kayoko o sitteiru ka?" in your diary, because he's talking to you and you're lower on the food chain so it makes sense that he'd use informal speech. But here you are talking to him, so you should write "hai, sitteimasu" to make the relationship clear. You need to put the quotation marker, と (to), when you say or ask things. Example:
学校に行くと言った　(gakkou ni iku to itta) He said he's going to school
銀行はどこだと聞いた (ginkou wa doko da to kiita) He asked where the bank is
分からないと言わなきゃならない (wakaranai to iwanakya naranai) You have to say/tell him you don't understand it

Without the 'to' it doesn't make sense. so it's 'hai, sitteimasu' to itta. "I said I know her". I don't know you age or gender, but if you're a guy you can say 'boku' instead of 'watashi' in informal / plain situations.
Anything with -te form plus kara means 'after X'. tabete kara = after eating, mite kara = after seeing, etc. So you could just say itte kara = after saying here. hai, sitteimasu to itte kara...'after saying I know her..'
Since this is plain tense you can just use 'kare' which means 'him' to mean 'kojima-san'. If this was in a more formal situations this would be rude. dechatta is a more empathetic way to say deta. It means something like 'he up and left'. If I said 'kare wa kukki o tabechatta' it would mean 'he up and ate all my cookies'. It's like describing an action that cannot be taken back and you don't particularly like.
You also need the particle to mark mr. kojima, kare wa dechatta. In informal spoken Japanese it would be ok if you didn't say the 'wa', but in writing it should be there. So all together "boku wa "hai, sitteimasu" to itte kara kare wa dechatta"

I didn't even get to speak Japanese, but its ok.

Adding kikai onto the plain form of a verb means 'the chance to X' or 'the opportunity to X'.　hanasu kikai'
means 'the opportunity to speak' 'the chance to speak'. nihongo o hanasu kikai = 'a chance to speak Japanese'. nihongo o hanasu kikai wa nakatta 'I didn't have a chance to speak Japanese'.
You don't need 'demo' if you can connect the sentence with 'kedo' which means 'but' 'although', and you should be trying to make your sentences in Japanese as long as possible for better practice, no more 'sosite's or 'demo's for you ; )
kamawanai means you don't mind or don't care. Saying 'betsu ni' means 'not particularly' or 'not really'. betsu ni kamawanai sounds better than 'daijoubu' in this sense. so 'nihongo o hanasu kikai wa nakatta kedo betsu ni kamawanai' I didn't have the opportunity to speak Japanese but I don't really mind

実は、私もそういう癖があるんだけど・・・一つの文章の中に、複数の種類の語尾を使っちゃうのよね・・・。

くだけた会話の中だと、そういうのも言葉のリズムができるからいいんだけど、この場合、テキストの文章だから、そろえておいた方がいいと思う。
