I like you - 好きです (suki desu)
I want to be your friend - 友達になりたいです (tomodachi ni naritai desu)
I'll be your friend from now on - 友達になりましょう (tomodachi ni narimashou)
This is for you (as in giving a gift) - どうぞ (douzo) OR つまらないものですが、どうぞ! (tsumaranai mono desu ga, douzo!) The first one is less formal than the second

It's almost Christmas I want to send a card to my Japanese family. Could I trouble someone to translate this for me please?? biggrin.gif

I'm very happy to be able to spend Christmas with family Shinoda. Even though I'm not with the family, my heart is always in Japan. Thank you for welcoming me so warmly. Next year I wish to spend Christmas in Japan. Maybe it will be a white Christmas. I really want to say "I'm home". Please stay healthy! Merry Christmas and a have a happy new year!
I'm very happy to be able to spend Christmas with you. Even though I'm not with you, my heart is always in Japan.

篠田さんの家族とクリスマスを過ごせて本当に嬉しいです。もう帰っちゃったんですが、心はいつも日本にあります。大変お世話になりました。 来年日本でクリスマスを過ごしたいです。本当にまた「ただいま」と言えるようになりたいです
メリークリスマス!良い正月を!
"shinoda-san no kazoku to kurisumasu o sugosete hontou ni ureshii desu. mou kaecchatta n desu ga, kokoro wa itsumo nihon ni arimasu. taihen osewa ni narimashita. rainen nihon de kurisumasu o sugoshitai desu. hontou ni mata "tadaima" to ieru you ni naritai desu.
merii kurisumasu! yoi shougatsu o!

一緒にクリスマスを過ごせてとても嬉しいです。もうそばにいませんが、心はいつも日本にあります
issho ni kurisumasu o sugosete totemo ureshii desu. mou soba ni imasen ga, kokoro wa itsumo nihon ni arimasu.

I was kind of confused...you said you're very happy to be able to spend Christmas with family Shinoda and 'you', yet you're not in Japan anymore?? How does that work out? Do you mean you were happy to be able to spend last christmas with them or something?

HELP!

><

Ok, so I tried to look up the Japanese children's story of "The Rabbit in the Moon" online, and I couldn't find it written in Japanese, so I tried to translate it. I'm doing this for my Japanese project, so I have to use more simple sentence structures and stuff that we learned. I can't try to do anything fancy, because we haven't learned it yet. Anyways, my Japanese is not good enough to translate a story, but I tried. So I was hoping if someone could read it over and correct my mistakes in the sentences, or tell me if something doesn't make sense. A lot of the vocabulary I had to look up in a dictionary, so I don't know if it is right. Oh, and a lot is written in Hiragana because I can only use the Kanji that we learned so far. Soo yeah. Please and thank you very much!

I'll write in bold underneath each sentence what I was trying to write.

QUOTE
むかしむかし、月のおじいさんは ちきゅうじょうのひろいはやしを見ました。
Once, an old man of the moon saw a big forest on the earth.

そこで一ぴきのウサギとさるときつねはいっしょにすんでいて、ともだちでした。
A rabbit, a monkey, and a fox lived there, and they were friends.

「さあ、だれがもっともやさしいですかな。」おじいさんと言いました。
"I wonder who is the kindest," said the old man.

そしておじいさんはこじきになって、そのはやしに行きました。
So the old man turned into a beggar and went to the forest.

「たすけてください。」どうぶつに言った。「何かたべたいです。とてもひだるいです。」
"Help me," he said to the animals. "I want to eat something. I am very hungry."

「ざんねんですね!」どうぶつと言った。それからはやくたべものをさがしました。
"How unfortunate!" said the animals. So then they quickly went to search for food.

さるはたくさんくだものを見つかりました。きつねは大きい魚をとりました。でもウサギは何も見つかりませんでした。
The monkey found lots of fruit. The fox caught a big fish. But the rabbit found nothing.

「どうしよう?どうしよう?」ウサギと言った。「さるさん、私にたきもの を見つかってください。きつねさん、たきもので火をつくってください。」
"What shall I do? What shall I do?" said the rabbit. "Mr. Monkey, please find some firewood for me. Mr. Fox, make a fire out of the firewood."

それで火をつくって、ウサギはこじきに言いました。「あなたに何もくれませんでしたから、火で私をにます。」
So they made a fire, and the rabbit said to the beggar, "I didn't give you anything, so I will cook myself in the fire."

でもおりからこじきは月のおじいさんになりました。「ウサギさんはほんとうにやさしいです。でもじぶんをそこねてはいけません。もっともやさしいですから、私はあなたをうちへつれてきて、いっしょにすんでいます。」
But all of a sudden the beggar turned into the old man of the moon. "Mr. Rabbit, you truly are kind. But do not hurt yourself. Because you are the kindest, I will take you back with me to my house and live with me."

それで月のおじいさんとウサギはいっしょに月に行きました。
So then the old man of the moon and the rabbit went to the moon.

oh okay, i do have the CD but what so i click to install it? sorry.

you go to the control panel > language options > languages tab > check the box that says "install files for east asian languages > click apply

and then it should ask for your installation disc then click ok

then after that open your control panel again > language options > languages tab > "details" button

and click the 'add' button and choose japanese as the input language so you can type with your keyboard; so you don`t need a japanese keyboard

oh could someone please, with an example clarify when you would use これ and when you would use この?

V thank you akira53 it made some sense but coffee clarified it for me

Both mean this, but これ us used when you use particle は. この is like saying これの. In other words, この is just "this" where as これ is this (something)
たとえば:
これはペンです。このペンはおもいです。
This is a pen. This pen is heavy.
This is probably a really bad explanation =/ lol

これは本です。
This is a book.

この本は私のです。
This book is mine.

Do you see how the word "this" is being used differently?

これ is a noun, or pronoun, or whatever. It's a THING. It exists.

この is an adjective. It isn't a thing, it doesn't exist. It just describes the noun. Therefore この always has a noun after it.

Get it? =)

Wow, I did the same thing for my Japanese class. Do you have Soda or Spencer sensei at your school?
去年 は 日本語 の 授業 の 中 で 同じ project を した。 学校 で 日本語 の 先生 は 宗田・Spencer が いる?
Did I say that right? japanese sucks considering I'm in 3rd year. Sorry, I'm bad at it so I can't help you there.
If you knew a woman who was pregnant, who already had 8 kids -- three who were deaf, two who were blind, one mentally retarded, and she had syphilis, would you recommend that she have an abortion?
♥answer If you said YES, you just killed Beethoven.

また日本語の授業でおなじことをした。あなたの先生は宗田先生ですか、それともspencer先生ですか?
^^ That would be better.

isn't movie ’えいが’? .. i didn't mean to write theater.
and i think you wrote 'watched' instead of 'went to watch'.
