I was wondering if someone could help me. I wanted to know the correct kanji for the word "family". My friend wants to get a tattoo with the character surrounded by the names of his brothers and sisters, so I looked it up in my dictionary and it gave me a few different choices. But I'm not quite sure which one is the right one.

Any help would be appreciated.

i didn't realize japanese had so many chinese characters in it.
i wish i could learn japanese. it seems like a really cool language.

^all the kanji in japanese is technically chinese characters. They all have the same meaning, but you pronounce it differently(that's the only difference, otherwise they would be the same)

ながら　isn't a verb...it's more like a modifier (idk if that would be the correct term). You could just say verb+nagara which is how it's usually used anyway.
食べながらテレビを見ました。 I watched TV while eating dinner. Alone, 食べながら would just be "while eating.."

つもり would take the verb です。
日本に行くつもりです。 (plain verb + つもり) I plan to go to Japan.

I think you may want it go a bit like this: [watashi no] tomodachi ga Eau Claire kara yon-ji gurai sunde imasu.

I would use "kara" (from) instead of "ni" (in/toward). Also if you are just mentioning your friend I would use "ga" instead of "wa" since you are bringing up a new subject. Also you may not need the [watashi no] part.

Just a warning I'm not 100% sure.

I'm currently taking Japanese 1 and:

あたしは ひるごはん を つくります。

.. That would mean "I'm making lunch." ... right? Or does it mean "I'll make lunch".. ? LOL I'm confusing myself now. XD I just want to know how to say like.. I'm at somewhere doing something. Like the pattern... stuff like, "I'm doing homework at my friends' house", etc.

What you wrote means, "I make lunch" or "I will make lunch."

I was taught that "I'm hungry" is either "Onaka ga suita" (casual) or "Onaka ga suki mashita" (polite). Tsukeru means "to turn on" I think... but I'm not sure.
