translation- "aha haahaha umm.... i don't know what i [should] say {in response to what you've just said to him/her}"

did you mean to say "kyou wa hontou ni samui desu ne" instead? haha I'm no expert though of course

i think honmani is osaka dialect... ??

The kanji is a bit small, but from what I can read.. I think it says:

This song is (or some song that its referring to) an premium song. Please go to the home page to the music shop to buy credits.

Something like that. Somebody please clarify.

^ it'd be easier for u to just post the lyrics...

i mean think about it, even with songs in english (my native lang) i mess up the lyrics cuz i can't clearly hear them....

you could also try www.animelyrics.com and see if the song is there...

Thanks but it's not a song. It's just a very short phrase, and it wouldn't be easier if I romanized it because she is speaking too fast for me to type it out. I can only get "Tamare! konokatkitsu" ..blah blah and even so I'm positive I made a mistake there.

of course i am probably wrong mellow.gif

ahhh.... i get it. *feels like an ass*
hehe while we're at it, is there anyone who's well schooled in the Osaka-ben to teach me what are the major differences to standard Japanese? Its not just a matter of accents right? I distinctly remember someone telling me there's a way to conjugate stuff in a different way or something....

Alice- well done for your test! smile.gif

Yes, honma in Osaka-ben means 本当

The very basics

だ = やねん
だろう = やろう
~ない = ~へん or ~ん

Osaka-ben

女やねん! It's a girl!
ん~わからへんや、男やろう uhh I dunno..It's probably a guy

hyoujun (standard)

女だ!
ん~、分からん。。男だろう

Copula

好きです -> 好きやねん

Negative

できない -> できへん
行かない -> 行かへん
書かない -> 書かん@
知らない -> 知らん
買えない -> 買えへん (or 買われへん)

@Standard dialect also uses (n) for negative, like you saw me use with wakaran above. Only osaka-ben uses ~hen though.

Get it? Sorry but my osaka-ben sucks, haha..One of my Japanese teachers was from Osaka so after class I made her teach me stuff like that. The grammar is the east part, the hard part is the word usage exclusive to people who speak Osaka-ben and the unique (cool sounding) accent. Even native Japanese who are born in Tokyo or somwhere other than Osaka can't pull a completely convincing accent off.

Nah, what mixedgirl said was right. You can also say 友達を作りたい、which is the same way we'd say it in English, "I want to make some friends". However when one gets a girlfriend, boyfriend or friends they usually say 彼氏できた! 彼女できた! 友達いっぱいできた! instead of 作った (できる can also mean to spring or pop up, it doesnt mean "I was able to do a boyfriend" in this context)

その映画見たことがないけど、聞いたことがある~ どんな映画ですか?

「Love Letter」

oh well...if all goes well then i'll be there by next aug and i can try myself unsure.gif

Sumimasen; this has nothing to do with the discussion but I have a question: Is it appropriate to buy your Sensei a Christmas gift? She's my professor at a community college, and she's so nice! She always brings us candy and stuff, and a classmate and I want to get her something. Is that appropriate though? She will be my professor next semester too. Not sure what to do, or what to buy her. Arigatou in advance!

(BTW, she is a Christian and celebrates Christmas so I don't think that will be a conflict)

I don't see why not. I always did that for my teachers.

うわあ、ほんまに?
uwaa, honmani ?

関西弁が好きなん?それとも京都弁やろか?
kansai ben ga suki nan ? soretomo kyouto ben yaroka ?

京都は、ええところやねえ。うちもよく、行くんよ。
kyouto wa, ee tokoro yanee. uchi mo yoku, iku n yo.

お店に入って、店員さんに「おこしやす」とか言われたら、なんかどきどきするわ。
omise ni haitte, ten in san ni "okosiyasu" toka iware tara, nanka doki doki suruwa.

・・・・・文字で京都弁を書いてみたけど・・・ちょっとわかりにくいね。
京都弁の一番の特徴は、言葉のスピードと、イントネーションだとわかった。

ところで、質問。
hannya って、あの『般若(はんにゃ)』のこと??? smile.gif
