"chichi and haha" are for the formal use. When you talk to the third party, you tell them "my father is" as "watashi no chichi wa"
When you call them as "chichi and haha", adult may think you are a decent person.
When you call your dad and mom, you can say "otosan and okaasan"in daily life. Also when you are talking with your friends, it is still otosan and okaasan. Only when you talk formal or with elders and betters.

oh i see. im just wondering why sometimes my dad insists that otosan and okasan are only spoken by children. he mentioned another word for father which is oyaji....kinda like ore no oyaji (my father), used when talking with third party... lol. gomen, im making a big fuss over this mother and father thing. i really want to study the right way of saying things in japanese cuz i dont want to sound funny. but right now, im still a noob.
About the second part, I don't really hear any girls say "ore" that often... Mostly guys use it, like teenagers, when they deem "boku" to be too childish. :] Girls say watashi, or atashi. Whatever you prefer. Older men prefer to use either watashi or ore.I hope this makes sense!
yeah, makes total sense.

my dad said i shouldnt say atashi. it's watashi or ore.
Yeah, there are so many ways of saying I.

wow, thats a lot different ways just for the single word 'I'. i guess this depends upon the situation ne? quite confusing but still interesting at the same time. i've been going back to previous pages and it's been really helpful.
