just a few simple questions for you guys who aren't Japanese but know the language -

1. When did you start learning Japanese?
2. How long did you take to achieve your current level of understanding the language?
3. What made you pick up the language?

Its for a short school-based survey -
ありがと!~

1. When did you start learning Japanese?
I started when I was around..12. I started really really concentrating on it when I was 14.

2. How long did you take to achieve your current level of understanding the language?
4 years for me too hehe

3. What made you pick up the language?
The language is similar to Korean, so I figured it would be really easy (lol NOT), and I love anime and manga.

I wish I knew the language. v.v;
My school doesn't offer it. -kicks school-
All I do is study by myself. 8(
So far, I learned how to read hirgana, katakana, and some Kanji. I also buy lots of books on the language too. ^^
An easy way I pick it up is by watching Japanese dramas, which I love anyway. Hehe.
nobody knows me at all

hello guys! I'm a teacher aid in PE, and theres this new japanese girl in
the class! She does not know how to speak japanese, and I plan on
helping her tomorrow.

These are the phrases I know:

Do you speak English?
Eigo ga hanasemasu ka?

Sukoshi Nihongo o hanasemasu, amarii wakarimasen.
I can speak a little Japanese, but I don't understand much.

Wakaranai or Wakarimasen[which one is more polite?].
I don't understand.

so I need your help! How do you say, "Today, we're running the mile. 4 laps around the track,
and when you're done, the teacher says the time, and then you go record it."

1. When did you start learning Japanese?
first started in Year 8...

2. How long did you take to achieve your current level of understanding the language?
well... I was pretty sh*t at Japanese when I went to Japan at the end of Year 10...
but after that I was determined to get better.. and I did in a sense...
so I guess 2 years to get the basics into my head.. then another 2 to polish everything else up...

3. What made you pick up the language?
I didn't... my friends attacked me when I was going to put French down...
and I guess I owe it to them, that I like Japanese so much...
