Im soo worried about getting into University of Minnesota. Its not the best school in the world, but its not that easy to get in. I have a 10.4 GPA (sadly) but Im taking like Ap calc, Ap Euro, Honors Brit Lit, French 3, Honors orchestra, and biology (dropped AP Bio sad.gif) so, do you think I need more extra curriculars? Im currently in Tennis and Chamber. Should I do more?

it's not the number of extra curricular activities you have that matters, it is how much you are devoted to them. if you are very devoted to chamber and tennis and spend a lot of hours a week on those two activities, and you can portray your passion for those activities, then you're fine. if you really need another extra curricular activity, find one that you have a SINCERE interest for and that will definitely show your passion.

i don't know how old you are, but if you're a senior (which i'm assuming you're not), then you don't even need to worry about it because it's already kind of too late. but if you're not, then good luck finding something that you have a passion for (if chamber and tennis are not sufficient enough for you).

How on earth does one achieve a 10.4 GPA? That isn't possible. Do you mean 4.1?

Really, it's not the quanity of extracurriculars, it's the quality. How long have you been in tennis? Are you the captain? How long have your played an instrument? Are you staying in Orchestra all 4 years?

You can get a 10.4? Holy cow.

Colleges like to see you dedicated to extracurriculars you enjoy. If you like doing community service, join the service clubs and do it all four years and try to get an officer position. But don't join a bunch of service clubs so it "looks good on your apps." And when you do have an extracurricular activity you like doing, do it with your whole heart, if you put a lot of time into one service club, it looks better.

If you're an upperclassman, forget about joining clubs, they kind of get that you're just doing it to make it look nice on your apps, lol, and it's really nothing when everyone else is doing it.

Eh, really, I'd tell you to join a club or two. Tennis and a club pretty much covers it. Or get a volunteer position, at the hospital or a job, etc. You can do it, but it's kind of beside the point to do something just to make it look nice on your apps. Maybe you can teach little kids tennis. smile.gif

10.4 (or 10.35 I rounded up) is not very good actually. Its pretty much between a B+ average and an A- average, on a 12 point scale. On a 4 point scale, it would be around 3.45. Well, I guess Im set though, because I plan on joining the Minnesota State Orchestra, as well as competing at state level tennis. Also Im a junior
